...every morning I drive up the M1 on my daily commute and travelling south bound is a police van (the ones that look like criminals are being transported in), being escorted by three police cars, a helicopter and sometimes motorbikes.

Being nosey, I want to know what's going on. Bearing in mind this is usually around 7.30-8.00 am.

Residents of Armthorpe on an outing?

(I mean the prison, and to court, before anybody starts)

That's all I could think of, that it was a high profile court case that was going on and they transporting the person being prosecuted. Seems a bit early though.

Depends which court they need to get to

Yeah a woman at work has mentioned this and one of the lads said it is a terrorist who is currently on trial - even the helicoptor follows above it seems!!

I think i saw this on it's return journey a few weeks ago.

Two police cars in front, one with a policeman hanging out of the window waving at everyone to move into the left hand lane. Why they needed two lanes to go down the motorway I don't know.

Scott> on my 2nd placement at school just outside of Leeds. It's near j28 of the M62 but I can get off the M1 at j40 and travel through Batley luckily, so I don't have to get all the way up to j42 where the motorways meet :0)

A similar thing happens in the area around Belmarsh Prison in south-east London (usually about 8-8.30 a.m. and between 4.30 and 6p.m.....quite often, especially if it's a high-profile prisoner being transported, there are several decoys, and more than one helicopter....it causes total chaos with the traffic trying to get to London, but there are normally warning put out on the radio that this sort of thing is going to happen, asking commuters to avoid the area....a bit difficult when for many it is the only route into London without going about 15 miles out of their way.
