I posted here a little while ago about my laptop, when i spilt tea all over the keyboard. well, since then i've used an external keyboard, and an external mouse as the mouse pad went at roughly the same time. Just tuned in to watch a youtube video and found that my sound no longer works too.
Sounds like i need a new 'puter. so how much do you reckon a 2 year old packard bell r1935 (40gb) is worth - with no keyboard, mouse or speakers?!? I would like to get something for it so i can put it towards a new one, rather than just chucking it. and while im on that subject, can any one suggest a good value new one? I need it to store a bit of music, to use the web, and for the odd letter/spreadsheet! dont wanna spend over £400 as thats what i paid for this one.

Not worth much at all really, for a new one check out ebuyer's site they do some good lappy deals.
Could be worth picking up one being sold for spares / repair on eBay and using the parts. to make a decent one. That said, it's a lot of messing about for what is by today's standards a pretty dated laptop.
With the price of new these days you would probably be better investing in a new one.
Acer do a cheap range and are usually the ones offered by ebuyer - though in my experience they are not built to last.
Have a look at the hp site also. Hp do some good machines at surprisingly low prices. You will be able to get a decent spec machine for the price you are budgeting for.

Don't buy an advent. I didn't know they were PC world's own brand until it was too late.

Aye have a look on ebuyer. Some cracking lil laptops for your money. Stay away from stuff like acers and the like. HP,Lenovo, Asus, Samsung and the like are the ones to look for.
If you dont mind small 7inch PCs (which are a little slower than desktop PCs, generally) take a look at a PC warehouse store near you - there are several brands, and some come with LINUX I think and they cost under £100. I got one recently with a 120G hard drive/touchscreen and it was around £300.
