I'm having a girlie dinner party on Saturday (yes tomorrow) and need to make a moussaka but with beef instead of lamb.
What is the absolute best recipe for this, I have googled and got a few, but I would prefer someone's tried and tested.
So....... praytell

I've made Delia's version (with the traditional lamb), which you can find on her website. I can't tell you what it tasted like though, as I'm a vegetarian so had a veggie one for me. It did get lots of praise from the meat-eaters though!

Crush garlic and chop an onion. Fry in olive oil then add the mince. Fry until browned with a couple of teaspoons of cumin powder.
Meanwhile gently fry large slices of Aubergine in a small amount of olive until they soften.
To the mince mixture add tomato puree and a little water (or substitute a tin of tomatoes or do a mixture of both)
Grate half a nutmeg into the mince and tomato mixture. You are then ready to layer the moussaka - put the meat sauce in a dish, then top with aubergine then repeat until all the meat and the aubergine is used up.
Now for the topping. Get a tub of greek yogurt, crack in an egg, whisk it up, add the remaining half a nutmeg, finely grated, mix, spoon over the top of the aubergine and mice, sprinkle parmesan on the top. Then bake until the topping is golden and bubbling.
The nutmeg has as aphrodisiac effect - so watch it!
