Tine.S. 01-08-2008, 11:45 AM The new Italian restaurants in Leopold Square, Popolo bar, lounge & kitchen, was reviewed in the paper today.
Popolo's cool… even on the muggiest summer evening (http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/foodguide/Popolo39s-cool-even-on-the.4348843.jp)
It says it's a restaurant for "younger set". Is that right? Anyone been?
ellielambert 01-08-2008, 12:03 PM I went to a party there on Wednesday and although I didn't eat there the drinks and surroundings were great. Can strongly recommend the Venetian mojito x
Carlene 01-08-2008, 06:10 PM Thanks for that. I'm going here tonight for my 21st! Was a bit worried the portion sizes wouldn't be very good value for money! I'm very much looking forward to it now!
Fancie 02-08-2008, 09:31 PM Mmmmm Popolos Mojitos  (all of them!)
mr craig 03-08-2008, 01:17 AM Just make sure you've got plenty of ££'s before you go in there.
Unisol 04-08-2008, 09:21 AM We ate there last night.
It was 'ok'
Maybe it was cos it was Sunday but the staff seemed a bit 'can't be arsed'
As we first walked in at least 4 members of staff appeared to be just milling around the bar area - we obviously appeared invisible to them
So bad start, but things quickly improved after sampling the EXCELLENT Mojito's!
The meal was maybe 6/10 and the portions quite small.
The diner style decor was quite quirky but felt a little stark - again, probably due to it being empty.
Im not often too critical of prices, especially if the quality of food/service is decent - but overall it seemed quite reasonable.
Oh yeah, just one small critisism - wipe the bloody tables outside, they were loppy!
kevin squire 04-08-2008, 11:52 PM we ate there and where quite supprised how big the portions where staff where quite busy. would recommend you try it out

That is the main UK restaurant attitude I've found.
kevin squire 07-08-2008, 10:20 PM its new and ive eaten here again had fish and chips and the fish well try it out best fish ive had in a long time, tables were all clean outside.get down and try it out thats all i can say
Not eaten there yet but have found the bar staff that have served me either miserable, disinterested or in one case, arrogant.
If anyone from there is reading this (Kevin?), customer service training may be in order. Being friendly to customers should be surprisingly cost effective!
I've been for drinks on a few saturday evenings since it opened and it's been a mixed age range from twenty to fifty somethings so if the restaurant follows suit.......
mrsmills 11-08-2008, 05:42 PM The interior reminded me of Fatty Arbuckles if anyone remembers that 'quality' burger joint? Combined with bits of New York style deli and touches that are over contemporary. Staff were surly and drinks average. For the price and its aspirations as a true cocktail bar it should have been better - an hour there gave us no incentive to return.
Shape 14-08-2008, 02:52 PM Went there for mojitos last night on the offer (all mojitos £3.95 on Wednesdays after 6pm) and really enjoyed them - I had the Venetian one and the orange one (didn't think it would work but it did!). My boyfriend had the apple and vanilla one and the spiced pear one. All recommended!
We didn't eat, but I saw some people who did and it looked and smelled nice!
Gazza 14-08-2008, 09:43 PM awful dreadful food
royalowl 15-08-2008, 06:44 PM awful dreadful food
I'm afraid I have to agree. Went there last Friday, the place was almost empty (7.45pm) and the food was dreadful.
The garlic bread with cheese and tomato, was absent of any garlic, and the tomato tasted like Jam!
The pasta wasn't too bad, but the meatballs were bland, and covered in yet more (jam) tomato.
Not impressed at all.....
SimonS 23-09-2008, 05:22 PM I went recently, Sulky staff all milling around doing nothing. Food took 45 mins for 2 burgers and fries. Apparantly each one is cooked from fresh! That's why it takes 45 mins...... Portions were tiny and laughable. Rubbish. Nice decor though.
Carborundum 23-09-2008, 11:26 PM Sounds like its a place for a trendy young girl like Carborundum to hang out ;-) (Digs out another pair of designer glassses and a new frock ) ...
