"Shania had been locked inside the flat with the dog by the boy she was playing with, who had been left home alone."
why was the boy left on his own with such a big dog the dog seems to me to have protceted his property.
in no way am i saying the girl deserved it and my thoghts are ith them but when will people start realising and using common sense!!

Sadly it has already been put down according to the bottom of the article.
it is such a dont think it is claaed as a dangerous dog as such and i can see the parents wanting it gone but there could have been a lovly home for it with experienced owners or used for guard work
spottie2101 31-07-2008, 15:33 Knee jerk reaction yet again.
No reference to the bad parenting mentioned makes you sick
Plain Talker 31-07-2008, 15:43 It's awful what happened to the child, but what the heck were the owners thinking, leaving kids not just unsupervised with the dog, but home alone and LOCKED IN with the dog, to boot!!!!
pets@home 31-07-2008, 17:43 wrong end off lead that suffers again, makes me sick, hope the young lads recovering ok , although he may not trust dogs again
Moonbird 31-07-2008, 19:25 I suppose this won't be popular but I would want the dog PTS if it was my child... or my dog, because I think once a dog has done something really bad like that it should never be trusted again, it wasn't just a bite it was a serious attack.
Neither the children nor the dog should ever have been put in such a position allowing such a thing to happen, what a tragedy all round.

As much as i love animals-i agree.
SpeedDemon 31-07-2008, 19:39 I have to agree too. Very sad though, and i hope the parents are prosecuted for neglect, although i dont think it said how old the boy was, who was left home alone. Maybe he was older than the young girl who was attacked. I really feel for that poor little lass :(

I to agree, i would never trust the dog again, we don't no what the children was doing to the dog, the dog could be innocent, he could have been provoked.
Glad the girl is going to be OK.
as a parent i probably would want it PTS if it was my child but would come round to saying make sure it isnt in contac with children EG: guard dog but its hard to say its just so unfair
Julie added: "The consequences need to be known so that people don't think that they can just get away with keeping dangerous dogs."
No... people need to learn that you don't leave kids alone with a dog - any dog - and kids need to be taught to respect the damage a dog could do and how to live with them safely.
The little boy should never have locked that poor girl in with the dog - and it could well have been her distress at being locked in that set the dog off in the first place but why has he not been taught that he shouldn't be doing it and WHY THE HECK was he on his own with the dog anyway??
