View Full Version : Do you think this should be stopped pets@home 30-07-2008, 21:25 https://secure.hsus.org/01/puppy_mill_rescue?qp_source=gabhca :rant::rant: beansforyou 30-07-2008, 23:40 Do you mean the puppy mills or the people trying to make money from the website? pets@home 31-07-2008, 00:02 the puppy mills of course, but it takes money to do it beansforyou 31-07-2008, 09:41 You answered your own question - of course. I wasn't sure if you meant stopping people from sticking a picture of some sad puppies on a website then asking for your credit card details, to me that is just as sickening. But as long as people out there fall for it, it will continue. More people should donate to the charities and causes of their choice, privately, then they would be assured the money went to the right places. pets@home 31-07-2008, 09:50 if you are a registered charity you have to have accounts to show where the money donated comes from & where it goes. Moonbird 31-07-2008, 12:25 I think that p@h is more interested in trying to show the plight of the dogs bred in puppy farms (sorry if I am wrong please say so p@h) rather than the donations or charity part. There is a really big problem with puppies and adult dogs in this country that are bred in puppy farms/used as breeding dogs, the dogs are often kept in terrible conditions, and denied basic medical treatment when they need it, they are simply money making machines that churn out, ill and unsocialised puppies that become an expensive nightmare for their new owners. The poor breeding dogs only live with other dogs, they rarely leave their pen, do not know anything about the outside world and are terrified when they are cast aside by their owners at 3/4 already old and worn out from their many litters. To see examples of ex breeding dogs please have a look down the list of many tears rescue (http://www.freewebs.com/manytearsrescue/dogslookingforhomes.htm), they are in Wales and take lots of these dogs from the breeders, I am sure that others might be able to provide other links about this terrible business that deals in the suffering and misery of dogs, cats and other animals. People should be aware that lots of these puppies are for sale in newspapers, internet sites, and pet shops, although they are appealing and sad if you do not buy them they won't breed more  There were a few words at the bottom of an article by the founder of the rescue that moved me to tears ..... The soul can have no rainbows, less the eyes have shed some tears" hence the name many tears rescue, I thought it very apt and beautiful. pets@home 31-07-2008, 12:53 got it in one moonbird you know me better than i thought lol FallenAngel6 31-07-2008, 13:32 When i was in college studying my National in Animal Management we were made to watch a video on Puppy farming. I there has been a few things done to try and stop puppy farming but i have no doubt that it is still happening in certain areas not just in the UK but all over the world. Its just one of the many disgusting and horrific things that people in this world choose to do to poor defensless animals. Fur trade and hunting and puppy farming and people hunting for ivory...(elephants tusks for people who dont know) the extent of animal cruelty in this world makes me sick. Some people just turn there heads to the animals suffering but i just think people should be made to see just what these poor animals have to suffer. Alot of people and trying to stop this and change it...but it just doesnt seem to be going anywhere at all. I think all these Animal welfare organisations such as WSPA and WWF should try and concentrate on stopping these people...put up the punishment for animal cruelty...instead of a slap on hand give em a kick in balls. Fallen Moonbird 31-07-2008, 14:45 I think all these Animal welfare organisations such as WSPA and WWF should try and concentrate on stopping these people...put up the punishment for animal cruelty...instead of a slap on hand give em a kick in balls. Fallen  I couldn't agree more. I do think that education is the key as well, the more that people know and understand about the circumstances that these animals find themselves in, the less they are likely to go to suppliers of these pets and perpetuate the problem...and the cruelty. FallenAngel6 08-08-2008, 19:56 Maybe its an extra lesson they could give in school. Just a thought, raise young peoples awareness about the world around them. Teach them about endangered animals and how to help with the planet, like planting and stuff. Teach them to respect and help the world around them instead of damaging it. I wish there was a lesson like that when i was at school. I wouldnt mind teaching classes bout that...could also try and prevent people becoming more frightened about nature suh as snakes and spiders etc. Alot of people do not like these sort of animals/reptiles but they play an important role in nature and if children learn about them and learn not to be afraid i reckon more would help. I definately think it would be a good lesson...i'd love my kids to be taught stuff like that. Fallen dogs4life 10-08-2008, 19:54 I do home checks for Many Tears and most of the puppy farm dogs they get in are in such a terrible state it makes me wonder how evil some people can be to an animal and manage to get away with it. People want the cute pedigree puppies and either haven't a clue (or just aren't bothered) how that puppy was produced or the welfare of the mother. Education and spreading the word to anyone who will listen can and does help but it is an uphill battle. To see the transformation from a terrified undernourished breed machine to a much loved family pet is enough motivation for me to keep on sending out that message and luckily has passed on to my children who then pass it on to their friends and so on - hopefully the younger generation will know more about this evil trade than we did and maybe one day it will be finished for good pets@home 10-08-2008, 20:09 If we could change just one persons mind a day ,are we really asking too much ? i dont think so, Britain was known to be a country off animal lovers what`s happend? FallenAngel6 14-08-2008, 22:53 I think people are like monkeys. They see one person treating an animal like crap and think it is ok. I am not saying that it is a fully grown person. Children might see it and think it is ok and when you eventually get an animal you find your child playing spin the cat by the tail. One child sees its ok then another child thinks its ok and this is not the parents fault because the parents might not actually see what is happening. The child may be walking to school see a nasty old man booting his dog for walking too far ahead and think...oh that looks fun. Children need to be taught straight from primary school about animals and the eco system and nature in general. That way if they see and man kicking his dog for no reason at all they will know it is wrong and know not to do it. Children have flexible minds as everyone knows and they learn through what they see as well as what they hear and are told...so if they see an adult someone who teaches them doing something like abusing their they may think its ok. It is not the childs fault because they dont know any better but definately think a new school lesson should be put in from Primary school through to secondary school. Fallen |
