My printer keeps printing a document sent to it by a 'guest'. Must be some getting into my machine but how? It is 190kb and prints a few lines of characters per page.
I have tried deleting temp files and cookies but it is back again. I got three hits during half an hour tonight. Scared the hell out of me the first time it started printing.
Any ideas? I have run Grisoft and do not appear to have any viruses.
my friend had a similar problem and it was a virus... maybe u should try a diff scanner or try updating it. If not im outa ideas
Yup. That sounds rather virussy to me too. We had a virus years ago that did something similar, although it attached itself to documents you were trying to print

Thanks for the help. I will have another look at my 'protection'.
could be Bugbear http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bugbear@mm.html
It could be a virus but get a firewall if you don't have already. The thing about windows is it's "ability" to share folders and printers. I remember a few years ago that in particular on windows 98, if you installed a printer it seemed to automatically shared it.
A good way to see if your sharing your folders and printer with the world is to go to www.grc.com and try their 'Test your sheilds' page. It does something called a portscan against your machine and gives you a good report of what facilities are available on your machine.
I'd suggest something like AaronD did.
You could probably solve it by disabling your guest account unless you have a good reason to keep it. At a minimum you could change it's name and give it a decent password. You might also consider changing the name of the administrator account.
Finally it might be worth checking that you don't have netbios enabled over your outbound net connection, it's used for the file and print sharing and should only be enabled for a local network card.
