A question for the boys. My son has really sensitive skin and is prone to acne. His GP has told him not to wet shave so he bought an electric shaver however he can not get a close enough shave with it. I want to buy him a new one for xmas. Can you give me some advcice on which one to go for. The one he has at the moment is straight edged like the disposable razors. Please help. :help:

To be honest, no electric shaver gets close enough unless your fully beard! lol. my dad bought me a shaver about 2 christmas's ago but its only really suitable if you shave often. If he's only just starting out then I suggest something like a Mac3 really. One thing I suffer from was sensitive skin too and Ive found Nivea for Men Face cleansing a good product tho it is quite expensive. around £4. well worth it. a little goes a long way. Hope this helps. Rick

I use the Philishave one with 3 rotating, circular heads. Don't know the model as I've had it for several years but it's close enough for my needs. I also wet shave with a mach 3 on Mondays as the weekend doesn't warrant shaving so the build up usually defeats an electric shaver.

Hope that helps.

I'm with Max on this one, I always electric shave but occaisionally do a wet one (Shave that is). I have bought many different brands and the best type are the Phillips one (3 Rotary heads as opposed to foil types)

I bought a new washable under the tap one last year, its not going to be as close a shave as a razor but they are more convienient.

For the Acne - I had really bad acne when I was younger, get your GP to prescribe - Roaccutane- No spots ever again.

Basically Acne is down to over production of the skins oils, pores block up and get infected. The over production is down to hormones.

This drugs stops production of oils therefore totally unblocking all pores.

Its the only effective long term solution.

Sorry for the lecture, I am no medic but I know I suffered badly when younger and I still have the scars to prove it. :P Acne Scars

I've got a Philips 'coolskin' one and that comes with sensitive skin cream that's very good for the skin.

Cheers lads. It looks like it will be philips then! He is 20 and has been shaving for a few years so it is a long term problem. He has had antibiotics for the acne but not had the one you had mikey. Will send him back to docs to ask for that one. Will let you know the outcome. Thanks.

Quinoderm is a good facial wash and face cream that works very well. You have to buy it over the counter at chemists, but it's only about £3.

No spots, just a suicidal personality disorder or exceedingly dry lips that stand out and look worse than spots ever could. The side effects of this drug have been widely published and are often much, much worse than acne itself.

HO HO HO! Do a search for Roaccutane. There are an awful lot of stories about it out there, and I have seen pictures of people with the side effects.
