Just browse the site here and you'll get a feel of what people are concerned about.

ALternatively, take a look at the Sheffield Star's site - despite what I usually think of them they do have the occasional news story! :)

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I do browse this website quite often to generate idea. However, some of the topic is too soft that's difficult to make a story. I am thinking about a current affairs related topic but should be related to Sheffield. It can be social issues, education or empolyment etc....it makes me feel headache now!

I assume we're going to get royalties.....

Just a small point but I worked as a journalist for four years and got plenty of stories by getting off my backside and finding the darned things, not cruising forums begging bowl in hand.

I'm an overseas student. So I don't know what should be an interesting story to the local people. Well, it'll going to be my MA project topic. I am searching for an controversial issue which happening in Sheffield or South Yorkshire, but should be feasible for filming. I'm thinking of some social problmes like young problems, drug, drinking or smoking, but they don't seem quite interesing, right? May be nothing new actually.

Sheffette, would you mind give me some tips on how u generate your story idea? U should be an expert as you've been a journalist for so many years. Thanks!

Car crime is a huge problem and is the focus of several agencies at the moment. South Yorkshire is the car crime capital of Britain.

You should find a few threads on here quite easily.

Cameras with vehicle recognition are likely to be introduced to monitor the movement of known criminals and stolen vehicles.

if you're at shef uni, how about asking foster for some advive. that's what the lecturers are there for.

I suppose Sheffette generated her story ideas herself and didn't rely on others to give her those ideas, and thats why she took that tone?? Your tutors will give you the help you need the way that her tutors will have given her 'tips'!

I tend to agree with her, my friend posted something of a similar topic a while back and got the same response of 'do it yourself' (from different forum users).

Stix is right also, look over the posts that have been written, most of us are local on this forum.

Just in case you didn't know, Sheffield has its daily 'Sheffield Star' and the weekly 'Sheffield Telegraph' (out on fridays). There are also other free papers kicking around 'The Gazette' which is weekly and the free paper on the buses 'The Metro'. All these contain news and views specifically to Sheffield and surrounding areas and sometimes a little further afield.

What do u mean by Twokkers? I have no idea what it is.

Young issues... maybe you could look into binge drinking, how it's maybe a problem in the area? Only an idea as someone in my class just did this for a TV project... filmed outside clubs and accommodation at night etc. Or something similar!

Just a thought... no harm in people asking for a little inspiration with these thing, as long as not asking you all to do the work completely, surely? :D

As a journo student, yes I do my work n research myself but sometimes I appreciate a little inspiration or ideas from others to get on the right track for the millionth local story that week hehe :)
