ive got a couple of problems regarding my firewall comodo, its excellent but is abit over zealous and i have to actually close it to use my network / torrents, i cant seem to get it to accept the network / utorrent in it so theyll work adequately while its running.

so anybody got any more ideas for good FREE firewalls for me to check out?
i noticed in the results that appeared when i did this title all the previous results were 2005/06

Just disable the firewall whilst downloading with uTorrent, then enable it again when you've finished. I use uTorrent with Comodo and don't have any problems, although I think I set it up to work with it. God knows how.

I know it's something to do with ports, but not sure. Try looking in the Comodo Forums, I'm sure that's where I got the information from. :)

i normally do disable it while i torrent but my puters slowly dying and it gets more and more errors, i know i know really i need to format and reinstall windaz but i cant be arsed tbh
the current error i get is, when i disable comodo to use utorrent my internet connection freezes after so long

I can recommend pc tools firewall, a quick google should help to find it, its free and I've never had a single problem with it...

Sygate Personal Firewall was good when I had it, and Zone Alarm's decent but VERY system intensive, it's also not free.

I know i'll be the only one....but i just use Windows. There's a good chance you modem will have some kind of firewall on it anyway...

(but i'm more than likely getting my wires crossed!)

i used to only use windows firewall, but its abit basic and i never really trust M$ stuff......i have a normal modem with no built in hardware firewall.

anyway im giving pc tools a go, seems ok so far, my networks reconnected and utorrents running, if abit slow still :(
however it wont let my network connect to the internet......which it did before i installed the firewall.........i cant find where to add it as an exception or indeed anything about a network :(

As torrents are a bit slow, have you got port forwarding enabled, and of course performed the maximum half-open tcp connections fix to windoze ?

you could try zonealarm that as a free version,
if you are using a modem router such as a netgear dg834 they have a built in nat firewall that seams to do the trick

network - 1 puter downstairs WIRED to this one upstairs via ethernet cards, the one downstairs accesses the net through this one.

torrents - yeah they are slow.........but since i closed the firewall its shot up from around 7/8kbps to 91kbps

If you have it installed like this it won't give you any problems...

It asks you about that on installing, so if you can't find it in the settings just download it again, un-install it, re-install it, & choose the options as above. It did the same for me when I first installed the newer version, the other options sound like a good idea at the time but they are a tad restrictive.

now your starting to scare me..........manually add all the ip addresses from my torrents?
but thats the nature of torrents....there could be 100s of seeds per download

In the trusted zone, add an entry to allow traffic from the other pc on the lan.. in the internet zone, add the port(s) that utorrent is configured to use...

cant find anywhere to add a port number in the internet zone section., i used to be quite handy on puters but these days (specially with linux and firewalls) im thick as pig**** :(

although to try pc tools firewall i had to remove comodo so thats been and gone.

I'll post up a step by step guide on how to add the port rule, or alternatively I think you can export rule sets, so If you pm me an email addy, and which ports your using for utorrent, I'll create a similar rule in mine and export it for you when I get home tonight..

try AVG free if your on xp or sygate on vista these are the two most recommended free ones by my friend who is a computer technician

Actually AVG do a firewall as well - it's just not free like the basic anti-virus v8.0 is.

I have just installed Comodo firewall Pro and it seems rock solid...

type in browser free fire wall, then check out. I use Mcafee verry good.But you should only use 1 firewall like use should only use 1 anti-virus or the computer goes crazzy.

i wouldnt use macafee anything........their av i knows pants like nortons compared to others...sometimes free stuff

The Defence + on Comodo is an absolute nightmare!
When I first Comodo with Defence +, there were endless pop ups asking for permission for this and that, most of them I had no idea whether the applications I was allowing or denying was safe or not.
I'm not a geek expert, but I'm not a novice either, can you imagine what a real nightmare that absolute beginners get if they had installed Defence +.

Everytime I tell people to install Comodo, I always ask them to make sure Defence + isn't activated.
I wonder if anyone out there actually finds Defence + any use at all.

As to the leak protection, isn't that one of the main benefits of installing Comodo in the first place, it's leak protection?
