View Full Version : Anyone seen Mystic River?
I watched this film last night for the first time on Sky and I thought it was the best film i've seen for ages. Very well written, directed and acted- especially from Sean Penn and Tim Robins.
Anyone else seen it? I wouldn't mind reading the novel now.
cobaltblue 24-04-2005, 18:01 I bloody missed it  I thought it would be good though. I guess I will just have to catch it next time :(
LordChaverly 24-04-2005, 18:10 I have seen it - its very good. I also liked Penn in the more recent film The Assasination of President Nixon'. Tim Robbins is always worth seeing.
LordSnooty 24-04-2005, 18:16 It's rubbish. Due to an admin error I have a DVD of this film - a legal one, of course! You can have it if you want. PM me and I'll stick it in the post, or I can leave it at a location of your choosing....perhaps you know of a hollow tree?
Every once in a while a film comes out from America that reinforces my belief in the movies! I thought evrything about it was brilliant. It was intelligent, moving and powerful at the same time. Better than the crap that usually comes out of Hollywood. Clint Eastwood is on the top of his game with this one.
I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby yet but if its anything like Mystic River then that will be brilliant as well.
It's an excellent film... mind you, Sean Penn is always watchable (Even in the Interpreter where he's fighting for screen time with Nicole Kidman's psspoor accent!).
I rented it from the video shop and i enjoyed it, i like Sean Penn, i think he is a gritty actor lol. I liked his part in 21 Grams too! I once went on an 'Oscar' website and he is nominated for an award nearly ever other year! Tim Robbins is also pretty ace, i liked him in The Player (ugh i think thats what its called).
Well I love to enjoy both Sean Penn and Tim Robbins, but I thought Mystic River was verging on weak as films go.
I only watched it once admitedly, but that was too much.
Watching some of the scenes, the actors where working so hard and the moment was just not delivered.
I love films, and Clint but so far for me, his oscar award is more for lifetime achievement than real directorship.
Yet too see Million Dollar Baby, but really not enthused.
Sorry
:gag:
I've not seen the film but I've read the book and it was very good..
I think written by Dennis LeHane

miniminch 24-04-2005, 20:26 one of the best films in recent years - sean Penn along with ed noton are perhaps the finest actors in america - they have an addictive quality! I found it spellbinding - a passionately made movie that confirms the superiority of film over tv as a medium!

Cheers for that. I'll have a look for the book during the summer. The book is always better than the film, although in this case the film will take some beating!
Is Million Dollar Baby adapted from a novel as well does anybody know?

American History X is one of my all time favourite films!
Chalk one more vote for Edward Norton
I didn't like it. It was like a 10 min story that was stretched out to 2 hours or however long it was.

This and the Green Mile are so overated!

Spot on, the Green Mile is overlong, sentimental, turgid rubbish. Mystic River is just a bit dull.
In my opinion!

This was almost my favorite Sean Penn movie, but my all time favorite would have to be 'I Am Sam.'
Sheffette 25-04-2005, 16:17 Its not as good as Mystic Pizza.

I am Sam is a cracking film, one of my faves.
The spaecial features are also interesting on the DVD.
