Did anybody see this story in The Star? It recounts the story of a 4 year old Barnsley boy who had been sent a ballot paper for the election. Great headlines and a front page picture leading to the story inside. Reading further on it transpired the parents had actually included his name on the election registration document.

Why, when people do stupid things do they insist on looking even more stupid by telling the press? :loopy:

Did the report include a typical local newspaper photo showing the parents, holding up the polling card, looking disgusted? :suspect:

My Canadian flatmates have been sent ballot papers which seems very strange.

Nope, they're more confused about it than me!

Just had another look at the story and ruby's right, it does show a picture of the little boy holding up the ballot paper. The parents, not content with looking complete muppets by complaining to The Star, are also whingeing that they haven't had their ballot papers. A spokesperson for the election office has pointed out that they applied for postal ballots which haven't been sent out yet.

Should we seriously be allowing these people to vote, I ask myself?

I actually received a ballot when I was 17 and living on my own. I had filled in the form by saying that I was 16/17 years old but still received one.

Did you catch the poor child's name as well - Vorian? As well as asking if they should be allowed to vote, should they be allowed to have children with this kind of ridiculous publicity?

I don't think the story's so unusual at all, happens a lot, things slip through the cracks more than we know, i think the parents just wanted the attention.

Exactly the point. It happens, in this case through muppetry, so why was it front page news in the Star?

Because the other week's headline news had a poor response:

"BARNSLEY CHAOS AS RAIL BARRIERS DOWN FOR OVER AN HOUR"
Failed to mention there was a broken down train blocking the road ...
