I hope this isn't too short notice for people, with the date being just over a week away, but after the success of our last camping weekend, I'm hoping that most of the people who came last time come on this one too. Obviously we'll be hoping for better weather this time, but as always, if it chucks it down, we'll just take it in our stride!
This time the venue is Bakewell, at the Greenhills Holiday park at Ashford-in-the Water, well within walking distance of Bakewell, and in a pictuesque setting too.
As before, it's up to individuals to make their own reservations, and their own way there; all I'll be doing is arranging one or two walks over the weekend, and basically doing my best to help Neo back into the swing of things after his Scottish adventure. :suspect:
More details regarding times of walks and stuff will follow later, once I (hopefully) get some response.
Watch this space...........

Basically, from 7th to 15th August there's an Arts Festival taking place at Bakewell

Greetings from Scotland - having a fantastic time, waterfalls with salmon leaping, mountains, lochs, costal paths..... and a Ceilidh tonight just went into village hall to get a ticket and noticed they have a public internet.
Will try to make this but I have busy schedule at work when I get back - but I'm sure I'll be along for some of it.
See you all soon, have fun.

We'll be along - I suppose you'll want a sanctuary if it chucks it down! Don't know if we'll be on the Castleton walk - just be arriving back from sunnier climes. It's really hard sat outside a bar with wii fii overlooking a harbour, mountains, islands..... trying to keep up with you lot! Oh well, back to reality soon enough!

The weather's actually been really good here since you left, it got to 32c for instance Monday, 30c Sunday, 28c today. Not quite got the mountains and sea like you have though, well, not from where I'm sitting anyway!

Glad you and Neo are coming on Camping Trip II. Let's hope we have as much fun as we did on the first one, without the rain of course! Not sure if we're doing 1 night or 2 at the moment, I'm waiting for the people who came last time to confirm so we can sort out how many nights and who's in what tent etc, but up to now there's BM, Neo, myself, possibly Nooka and you 2.
Keep following the thread!

We won't be camping either but, hopefully, will join you for at least one walk.

Thanks for the interest shown everybody, the walk details will be posted on a seperate thread after this weekends walk. They will probably be a 6 mile walk for the Saturday which is a repeat of a walk that we did on a beautiful day last December around the outskirts of Bakewell, and a 2 hour ramble for Sunday morning between Bakewell and Ashford-in-the-Water.

I know its off topic but just want to know when does the salmon start to leap? is there a certain time and season? Saw them on telly but never actually able to be there to see them :(

Better ask Neo when he gets back, he's our 'salmon expert' :)

Just to "bump" this thread back up, I'd like to confirm that the camping weekend is still going to take place, if there are any lurkers out there who are thinking of coming along!

Not really an expert, but last week I actuall saw salmon trying to leap up a 18metre (approx 60 foot) vertical cascade of water - now I don't think there is any way they could possibly do this - I've got pictures of the waterfall but could not get a shot of the actual leaps.

Great weekend, lovely site & not a problem all weekend! Obviously we took our normal wet weather with us, and Saturdays walk was a bit of a washout, but the weather didn't affect the camping and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Lovely barbecues both nights too, some great "homemade" entertainment & enough swinging to be needing a rope factory :D.
We were lucky enough to book a site which was within 1/2 a mile from Lathkilldale, and being this close meant that we just had to walk it again which we did this morning, ending up having a lovely lunch at the Bulls Head in Monyash. As some of ate more than others (mentioning no names but rhymes with Silly Bum) after a stroll back over the fields, we were only fit for a bit of longing around, instead of visiting the music thing in Bakewell that we went there for ;)
Cheers to the Hemlocks for the use of the facilities in their camper van all weekend, to Neoteric for leading the way with the swinging :suspect:, and to Billysmum for making us laugh all weekend
Bring on the next one!

Always knew it was a swingers group...even more so since the new Group Leader was appointed.

Keep up the good work!

And some more convention activities - a walk straight from our campsite through beautiful Lathkildale to Monyash where we had a lovely pub lunch - despite the skating rink in the toilet and being berated for moving chairs in the pub - that chair goes with this table! What a fun day - what a fun weekend. More pictures here (http://picasaweb.google.com/neotericwalks/CampingWalkingWeekend9thAugust2008)

Fabulous photos Neoteric, especially of Lathkilldale. What a pleasure it was to walk somewhere which was virtually people-free for a change, and in such beautiful surroundings too.
Your first set of pics were umm, interesting too, to say the least. No 1 pic has to be the one of the happy-go-lucky leader pretending to be a born-again juvenile. Did I catch the moment with that one or what? :D:D
