ive just been looking around different animal rescue centers to get numbers about volunteering to walk some of the dogs, i knew they where a lot of dogs in the centers but no where near as much as there actually is, its so sad i wish i had room and money to take them all in :(

the poor dogs dont asked to be dumped in these places or cats for that matter theres a lot of them just been dumped once there past the cute kitten stage, a pets for life people know whats required when buying them (or getting them for free) so why get the poor animal if you dont intend to keep it??

It really is a shock isn't it when you realise the awful enormity of the situation? and the more that you find out it gets no easier to see it either.

But at least you can make a difference if you try, even if its just a small thing it can mean so much.

Just think a walk to a dog in rescue must be the highlight of his whole week and cheer him up immensely...little things mean a lot, don't get too upset about it all, just do a little bit to help it does make you feel better and the dogs too :)

I would love more than anything to rescue a cat but living in a flat and being out at work all day I am not sure it is fair really :( I had thought about a more elderly cat that had always lived indoors though, it might not mind sleeping all day and then having lots of love when I am at home

I have to laugh at my lot due to me being at home with them all the time at the minute they are most put out i am spoiling their chill out time.
Im having to chuck (not litually) spottie off the sofa to lay down and she just sighs and looks at me like how dare you spoil my snooze space
Dodge loves it as he just cuddles up to me and sleeps when i sleep but even Jack is baffled why im always around.

Sorry i went off track slightly there ever little helps with rescues and as was said earlier a walk means the world to a dog who is stuck in a kennel it relieves the boredom no end.
I started off a walker then crept up to a fosterer and bit and bobs now so dont lose heart you will be doing loads more than most do.

We've got indoor cats and you'd be surprised how many cats are content to stay indoors provided they have the right stimuli. A lot of older cats end up in rescue through no fault of their own too and they would welcome a warm knee and the freedom a flat has to offer compared with the confines of a pen.

I did the same, visited Thornberry the other day for the first time in ages (to give it another chance) ..... and took a look around the dogs, i was actually trying to work out how many dogs i could take, in reality i cant even home one now, it'd kill my cavvy and the cat would be non too pleased either, but i did find myself thinking .... If i convert the playhouse to a luxury kennel ... the gardens big and secure and ..... blah blah blahg, totally unrealistic but i hated to see those dogs sat in their concrete cells. Its been on my mind all week, the poor sods were trying to push their noses through the gates just to lick me, no dog deserves that. I really do think some restriction should be enforced with animal ownership, i would happily jump through hoops to be able to own a dog if i had the knowledge the new legislations erradicated the need for shelters.

True, I have two kitties, one mews to go out and mews and mews at the deep injustice of coming in for the night. My other kitty could easily be a house cat, she sometimes spends days indoors. To be honest, she's so timid, she seems much more settled and less scared at everything when she has been in all day. There's a kitty out there for everyone! :)

Well I am in the process of moving house, so once I am moved I might pay a visit to a rescue centre and see if there are any old cats who would like to retire in peace! I can offer a lovely warm bed to sleep on, lots of food and loads of attention after 5pm! - I dare not tell the hamsters my plans yet....

Another way of helping the dogs in rescue is by printing off some posters of the dogs avaliable and putting them up. This is a small thing that can have a huge effect. See the link called "Do your bit for Rain Rescue"

It is bad isn't it :( It used to really get me down, being constantly reminded about the situation, but now I just think hey get on with it. Every little bit helps and even if it's just putting a poster up or telling a stranger where to find a new dog, it helps.
