Does any one know whats happening to that most inappropriately named establishment? It's been closed since the previous manager allegedly did a runner with the till?

Agree with the first comment. Still, that applies to Stocksbridge as a whole eh?

It's like going back in time that place. There is a siege mentality to the place. The locals are a bunch of interbred numpties who fear and despise "outsiders", i.e. people not from Stocksbridge.

The whole lot needs knocking down in my opinion.

Stocksbridge = Royston Vasey.

I was told that about Sheffield as a whole.

Still there's always a place for prejudice, eh.

Nowt wrong wi Stockers....though when i lived up there i wasn't a regular in the 'Coach' or Friendship.

I was more of a Wragg, Nook and Royal Oak man.

I haven't been boozing up Stockers for years but i must admit its a strange old set up.

Have you ever been to Stocksbridge? Having lived in Dore and Stocksbridge, I can confirm the inbreeding in Dore is far more apparent.

Just because you live in Dore doesn't mean your anything. You can put a pig in a suit, but it will still squeal.

The Frenny shut initially from 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays due to a bout of 'incidents' of an aggressive nature. Not sure about the landlord doing off with the till but can't imagine there was much in it.

The Frenny is a hole to be fair and would imagine it has been affected big style by the smoking ban.

The pub scene on the whole in Stocksbridge is god damn poor which is why I usually go into town if I go out. It is a culmination of poor pubs and the fact that they are all spread out and you can't do a pub crawl a la Ecclesfield and Chapeltown.

There is a planned development for the Valley so we will see what that will bring. A Wetherspoons would go down a treat though.

Wetherspoons should take over the Freindship it's their kind of place, a big building in the centre of town with little competition close by. In fact no competition from other pubs, since the Fox is now closed Stocksbridge only has one pub, the Red Grouse. The other pubs is the valley are in Deepcar or Bolsterstone. There are still a number of clubs in Stocksbridge of course.

I've heard a strong rumour Weatherspoons are looking at taking on the Frenny and that the Wragg will be the next boozer to have the 7pm curfew inflicted on the Friday and Saturday.

I emailed wetherspoons to see if they would come to Stocksbridge as there are many suitable properties such as the friendship, the old cinema, the college etc but they said "no thanks".
