I know I don't really use SF that much anymore, (bit busy lol) but I was just wondering if anyone could lend a helping hand by signing this petition?

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/dlachanges/

Basically its to lower the eligibility age of the mobility component of DLA to birth instead of three years. Anyone with a physically disabled child should get far more than they do, and I suppose from the outside point of view its hard to see that.

Our LO has Spina Bifida, and due to this after her birth we will have a hell of a lot of trips to the childrens hospital etc, and we're coming from chesterfield. On top of the petrol, the parking fees are extortionate and for long hospital stays we simply won't be able to afford to visit for long periods of time. Everyone with a child who needs regular hospital trips and who needs help getting around (I'm talking physical disability more than anything, but granted people with children who are mentally impaired or impaired in any way also need help) should be able to get a blue badge at an earlier age than three years. By the time our baby is three years old we'll have spent about 3 grand-ish on parking fees alone :|

So what I'm saying is... Please sign this petition, and help parents and children everyone who need help with parking and generally getting around in a vehicle. Thanks in advance to everyone who does :)

*signs*

Also they should simplify the forms, as it is it's like pulling teeth to get anything out of the Government for genuine cases because you need a Degree in English language to understand the forms! :loopy:

The problem is more that patients who need to use private transport shouldn't be penalised. The lowering of the Mobility component wouldn't help those who have a child with a temporary disability who needs a lot of hospital appointments. Why can't the hospital issue some kind of exemption from charge certificate?

i claimed dla for my daughter since she was 6 months old and was able to get a blue badge at the age of 18 months, due to the fact she couldnt walk at all, what annoyed me the most is that i had to fill in a dla form every year till she was 3 and renew the badge after getting it renewed.
i remember once asking the dla why i had to claim every year and i was told is was because my daughter could outgrow cerebral palsy she is 7 now and still got cp.

i agree though with getting help with parking and travelling if you dont get help with a blue badge.

another thing what gets me wound up is when parking in a disabled parking bay, people especially elderly people give you the most dirtiest looks, because they think you shouldnt be parking there because of the car you drive, but it is ok for them to sit in their car reading the bloody mail in a disabled parking bay. i once got approached by a elderly couple who came up to me just after i parked, and told me you cant park there, that is for disabled people, so i got the badge out and nearly rammed it down their throats and said to them see that little girl on the picture, that little girl is in the back, now who cant park here, and they soon ran off.
