Strix 28-07-2008, 07:09 PM Yesterday Mr Strix and I decided to take Brude to Clumber Park, and thought one of the Rain Rescue dogs might like a good run out too, so we took ricky with us :)
He's only six months old, but he was an absolute star!
He walks pretty nicely on his lead (pulls way less than our pooch  ), is really well behaved, and seems to be bomb proof - taking everything in his stride from kids whizzing past on bikes to somebody revving their motorbike up as they were leaving when we were walking past
He had a pretty good go at finding himself a new home too! Making friends with a bloke in a wheelchair (again, very confident, unlike our hound at this age), and making eyes at the woman at the icecream van who's dog had died 12 months before
He was interested in the squirrels, bunnies and swans at the park, but only in a pricked up ears fashion - no bounding off for a closer look or straining at the lead
On the way back he had a second go at inviting Brude to play (he'd been walking nicely side by side with Brude for a couple of hours), but when Brude said 'you're a bit big and it's too hot to play' he didn't press the issue
He travelled well in the car - no fuss at all, just lying in the boot with the occasional look out of the window
Ricky is going to make somebody a really nice loyal pet

Rainrescue 28-07-2008, 07:32 PM Thank u so much Strix for giving him a lovely day out - its no life for a young baby in kennels all day is it and that was really kind of you all for taking him along.
The pictures look fantastic and show off just what a superb boy he is - i do hope he isn't waiting for much longer.
Rehoming is at an all time zero atm, everywhere is full to burst - must be down to holidays i suppose
love the photobucket thingy - will have to try that
Strix 28-07-2008, 08:27 PM I think we need walking jackets too RR - so everybody can see a RainRescue dog is looking for a home when out and about
Another project to add to the growing list though!
spottie2101 28-07-2008, 08:41 PM I had a T-Shirt printed for when i have fosters and we go out saying in big letters on the back something like this dog needs a home ask for details and rain rescue on the front.
It was not too expensive either.
Moonbird 28-07-2008, 08:55 PM Aww Ricky is such a cute big floppy puppy bless him, he still has that silly babyish look about him  and such a floppy dangly big tongue :hihi:

Strix 29-07-2008, 12:36 AM aww they're both so lovely strix, and what a lovely idea, takin a rescue dog out for the day! He looks a big lad for 6 months!yeah - he looks bigger in some of those pics than he really is as Brude is behind him and disproportionately small!
there's one where the two are side by side where you can see he's not as enormous as some pictures make out!
Brude's the same size as a cocker spaniel btw - don't mix him up with a foxhound
SpeedDemon 29-07-2008, 12:40 AM Brude's the same size as a cocker spaniel btw - don't mix him up with a foxhound
I must have done, as i thought beagles were bigger than cockers. He's a very handsome chap!
bobgirlsnake 29-07-2008, 01:08 AM awww hes lovely, i wish i had room for a dog :(
Strix 29-07-2008, 01:13 AM I must have done, as i thought beagles were bigger than cockers. He's a very handsome chap!Beagles are 14-16" at the shoulder, which is roughly cocker sized :)
Thanks for the compliment (but I shan't tell him you said so as he seems to know it too well already  ;) )
Strix 29-07-2008, 01:13 AM awww hes lovely, i wish i had room for a dog :(not even a small one? :(
perhaps you could volunteer to walk for a rescue then?
bobgirlsnake 29-07-2008, 01:22 AM not even a small one? :(
perhaps you could volunteer to walk for a rescue then?
unfortunately not :( we have 5 leopard geckos,2fat tail geckos,1corn snake , 1 kitten and 2 children so its a full house :( i would happily walk them though would be nice to take one when we go to graves park :)
bobgirlsnake 29-07-2008, 01:37 AM should have said how do i go about volunteering ?? do i just go down and ask?? would i need id of who i am and where i live?
Strix 29-07-2008, 02:44 AM the first thing to do is to ring a rescue near where you live and see if they have volunteer walkers and if they'd like some more
your yellow pages (or yell.com) should be able to find you one or two
Different rescues probably have different criteria, and different procedures - eg I suspect the Dogs Trust has enough of their own land at Huyton for them not to allow the dogs off the premises (though I'm not sure they do restrict in this way)
Although I'm a regular at Rain Rescue, I always have to ring RainRescue herself for her to tell the kennels to allow me to take a dog out with me, or for me to visit them in kennels and do an on-site walk
When I've had foster dogs from RainRescue I've had assistance from other forum members who've dog-sat for me so I could visit family overnight - though I've told RR what I was arranging too
bobgirlsnake 29-07-2008, 05:30 AM thank you im going to have a call round in the morning
*Peaches* 29-07-2008, 10:05 AM I can't seeeeee  linky won't load :(
Jess22 29-07-2008, 10:19 AM Doesn't he have a very honest looking face. Lovely :) I do hope he finds a home soon.
I did the same a few weeks ago, took a 9 month old spaniel pup out with Oz from our local sanctuary. She was lovely and so well behaved if a little bouncy. She nearly came home- if it was up to Oz, he fell for her big time. Luckily she was going to a new home the next day. :) Lets hope the same happens for this boy.
Rainrescue 01-08-2008, 01:11 AM I can't believe it - we haven't had any interest at all for this little cutey baby - so he is still spending all his days and nights in kennels.
We are out rotherham way - and would appreciate sensible dog walkers - or even someone who is sensible who could take one of ours out for the day. Ricky is desperately bored and lonely in kennels - its no place for a puppy to be spending his life.
I would expect some id - and maybe some recommendation from a forum member that knows you to vouch for you - but we may be too far away from you. Sheffield Dog Rescue are maybe more local to you - contact Gemima -she may know if they need volunteers.
shihtzumad 01-08-2008, 04:33 PM Some more pictures to share
