View Full Version : Wards: Where is Sheffield city centre?

I was trying to establish which councillors are responsible for the very centre of Sheffield. I looked on this site:
http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/councillors

And also on here...
http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/council-meetings/area-panels

But there didn't seem to be a "region" that was for the centre of Sheffield? I'm assuming (hoping) that I'm just confused, so could someone please explain.

At the moment there are several wards which include parts of the city centre. This will all change later this year with a new ward called Central. Most of the centre is included in Netherthorpe, presently. Let me know where in particular and I'll tell you which ward.

Anywhere in S1 Max.

Thanks for the advice so far... seems odd that it's take this long for a dedicated Central area?

Not really, as the wards are based on population and there haven't been many people living in the city centre until recently it didn't warrant it's own ward.

S1 is pretty much within Netherthorpe at the moment so have a look at the pages you linked to to find out the councillors' names.

Pah! Bypass your councillor and go straight for your MP - the Rt Hon Richard Caborn. I did; I got a reply back, but it wasn't much help though :(

I'm sure you all know what I wrote to him about

Remind us all, there's so much on here that we can't be expected to remember everything.

I wrote a letter of complaint to Sheffield City Council re: the plans to build another incinerator on Bernard Road, and I cc'd it to the Sheffield Star and my MP David Blunkett (Brightside).

I put my work address on, 'cos I don't want the spooks harassing me at home, so the letter to my MP was passed to Richard Caborn. His response was ultimately for the incinerator.

To their credit, the Sheffield Star printed my letter with only a minor change; albeit a month after I sent it, so it may have been printed after the last date for objections...not that the Sheffield Star would be so cynical of course.

Hi

Certainly Cllr Jillian Creasey (Green) & Cllr Bernard Little (Green) are Central ward councillors. Jillian to my knowledge works very hard although she is isolated and carries little power but is honest and works very hard. Ji;;ian was elected in June 2005 and bernard June 2006. Cllr Jean Cromar is New Labour and I think has been a councillor for some years.

There used to be something near the East House pub (spital hill) called Caborns Corner which is where demo's started from (Trade Unions, pressure groups & local community groups) on their way to the Town Hall. Nobody except all farts like me call it Caborns Corner anymore. Those of us who do remember George Caborn a real Labour person and not some useless New Labour cronie like Richard.

best wishes

Corrections:
1. Cllr Jillian Creasey was elected in June 2004.
2. Cllr Bernard Little was elected in May 2006.
3. I doubt if Jillian would describe herself as "isolated" now that she has her own Town Hall office, which she shares with her fellow Green councillor.

Welcome to the forum PSatur. Was there some point in dragging up this 3 year old thread?

I also don't think that Jean is "new" labour, TBH, she seems to display more traditional labour values from what I've seen, working with her on local issues.
