misschick 28-07-2008, 03:10 PM Hello again
Further to my posting yesterday I am back again, this time BEGGING for help!
Things are now at breaking point, we are really desperate for someone to take our British Shorthair cat to a new loving home. I have been up most of the night with my daughter and her bad chest, and she is no better today, and its looking a lot like we are going to need the nebuliser at the hospital.
Its cruel leaving the cat shut in the back porch, but I cant have her in the house now at all.
So please, if you can help AT ALL, I would love to hear from you.
Please remember, I wouldnt ask if I wasn't desperate. :help:
mojo1 28-07-2008, 03:11 PM How old is she?
misschick 28-07-2008, 03:14 PM She was 3 last Sunday. I do have another post on here, it has all the details in that you might need. Any other questions, please feel free to PM me. Many thanks.
katkin 28-07-2008, 03:24 PM misschick- could you contact the breeder you got her from, or the breed rescue?
British Shorthair Cat Club
Mrs M Coleman,
Ty Gwyn, Llawryglyn,
CAERSWS,
Powys SY17 5RH
Tel. 01686 430334
Although based in Powys they may know of someone in this area who is interested in adopting a rescue cat
I've just posted a thread on cats and allergies and it sounds as if yours is one such case where you've tried everything but is your doctor absolutely certain your daughter's symptoms are caused by the cat?
There's also http://www.british-shorthairs.co.uk/ again, although based in southern england, they may have people across the UK interested in rehoming
misschick 28-07-2008, 03:31 PM Thanks Katkin for your advice. Will try that, although I didnt get the cat from a breeder I took it in for a friend who moved away just before Xmas, and it was about a week after that that my daughters problems started, so yes, my daughters allergies are definitely caused by the cat. I feel so guilty at having to rehome her but I feel I have no other option.
Sorry if I come across as a bit grumpy and abrupt but I am quite emotional about this whole situation.
mojo1 28-07-2008, 03:35 PM I'm contemplating.... I really am, a new queen is on the cards this year, but ideally I wanted a kitten. I'm more worried about how she'd settle with my two reprobates.
My queen is a bonkers tortie psychopath, but she's getting to an age where a young queen could cause her distress, hence the kitten idea.

You're not coming across as grumpy at all- you are genuinely concerned about your daughter and your pet and it sounds as if you're doing everything you can to resolve the problem- I'm only sorry I can't offer any other advice or help - but it might be worth trying the breed rescues and the local animal rescue societies (although it is the height of kitten season). British Blues are lovely cats and someone out there will be interested in giving her a loving home, so fingers crossed she finds it soon
sezbetz 28-07-2008, 07:18 PM Wish I could help with rehoming - have sent you a PM
Rainrescue 28-07-2008, 07:25 PM could u put her in boarding - and then send a picture of her and a write up and we will get her on our site for you to rehome her?

That sounds brilliant, especially as I've offered to foster her until she gets a new home, just to solve the imediate health issues.
Rainrescue 28-07-2008, 07:39 PM ok - sorted then
i am sure she will find a lovely home - and we could even ask for a donation to go back to the rescue for her which could go to the C.A.T.S. rescue maybe?
we are having problems with our internet connection atm, but will put pics and write up up once we are back through if someone can send us a write up and nice photos
misschick 28-07-2008, 07:47 PM Thats amazing, thanks so much guys. Mojo...will pm you x
misschick 28-07-2008, 08:01 PM Can I please say thanks to everyone, but especially Mojo1 and RainRescue for all the help. Its really appreciated, and not just by me. My daughter (although she will miss the cat desperately) will finally be able to breathe properly again and not cough like an old man on 60 a day!
Thank you so much x
mojo1 28-07-2008, 09:31 PM Dakota Belle is firmly entrenched behind my sofa. Billy and Mojo have looked at her and then investigated her food supplies, they don't look impressed, but then they never do.
I will get a pic and a profile written as soon as she's a bit more settled. For now I'll simply say she's gorgeous!
Moonbird 28-07-2008, 09:35 PM Dakota Belle ...she sounds ever so posh :D
It's fantastic that you have managed to help out Mojo, is she a potential for failed foster do you think? :hihi:

It's going to be a long night.

I don't envy you at all, you could do with a Felliway for them.
Or do you have a room that you could put Miss posh pants in so that they can settle slowly and get used to the smell and sound of each other for a while?

I'll cope, I can divide the flat into two for a few days when I'm not about and they'll just have to get used to it.

I'm sure that they will once they work out that no one means any harm to the others :)

Oh Lordy :hihi:
I am sure that Dakota Belle will hold her own though , they will come to some kind of agreement eventually... double trouble :hihi:
katkin 29-07-2008, 10:22 AM aww glad to hear she's settling in-sometimes it takes a while for things to settle down but fingers crossed they'll all find their space soon. We still get spats between bungle 1 and bungle 2 but generally, they keep themselves to themselves and as long as both get their fuss and whiskas cat milk (or in Alfie's case, the trimmings off a raw chicken), all is well in the katkin home
mojo1 29-07-2008, 06:51 PM All three Kitty's are sporting sparkly disco style flea collars (Billy looks especially camp) and after a few sessions of growling and complaining, 'Dickie' as she's been lovingly nicknamed (Belle is too close to Bill) has been out for a cuddle and a brush. She's still hiding most of the time, but she's eating and has the most comedic purr I've ever heard.
I haven't managed to get a pic of her yet as she doesn't stay still in plain view for long, but hopefully I will have one later.
Rainrescue, please could you let me know what info you need for the website? Then I can get it all to you ASAP.
misschick 29-07-2008, 06:56 PM Yeah, she does the 'brrrr' when she is really happy...its funny! Wait till 7pm when she starts shouting at you! I do have some pics Helen if you want me to mail you a couple, its up to you.
mojo1 29-07-2008, 07:03 PM That would be good, pop them on your facebook and I can copy them from that.
*Peaches* 30-07-2008, 10:09 AM To say I wasn't tempted I'd be lying :hihi: How is she with other animals, dogs etc?

If she's anything like she is with other cats then she'll probably be fine, after initial grumbles. Even the ratties only got a fleeting glance.
Dickie can hold her own, she's a big girl and she's not afraid to stand her ground.
She likes to know where the other pets are, but she's not particularly worried by them.

x
SpeedDemon 30-07-2008, 10:51 AM she is soooo gorgeous but we already have 4 cats :(
LitleMermaid 30-07-2008, 10:56 AM Oh Gawd.....I was initially not going to beg OH to take her in as I thought she didn't really get on with other cats. Now knowing that she's not too bad....God it's so tempting! I just love BSHs!

There have been the usual growling and hissing sessions, then Mojo smacked her one and Billy gave her a long hard stare as only he and Paddington can. Since then they've warned each other to steer clear, but havent had another spat.
Last night all three of them were in the same room for over an hour without incident. I call that a sucess.

Bloody hell I DO call that success when you look at my girls:hihi:
I know I shouldn't laugh but when they "smack" each other it does look quite comical sometimes! I want her!
EdnaKrabappe 31-07-2008, 02:38 PM Oh my god. She is gorgeous :love:
I am sure you won't have any problems rehoming her. I would love more kitties but my place really isn't big enough for any more than my two.
I'm all broody now. Blues are my favourites...
Rainrescue 31-07-2008, 02:48 PM Picture and your write up is up on our website now

mojo1 31-07-2008, 09:28 PM Good news. I've just been contacted by a lady wishing to give Belle a new home. She has already taken two rescue cats and is a Cats Protection League home checker. I've sent her some additional info and I'm now waiting to hear back.:)

mojo1 01-08-2008, 03:05 PM :clap::banana::clap::banana::clap::banana:
Dakota Belle has a new family!
They have just been to meet her and seem a lovely couple. They brought their dog to meet her so there was lots of growling and grumping and they still thought she was great.
They are more than happy for me to deliver her to their house so I can check out where she will be living. So, unless there are any objections she should be going to her new home in the morning (I want on more night with that crazy purr:hihi:)
katkin 01-08-2008, 03:07 PM Well done Sheffield Forum for helping to happily resolve yet another animal crisis so quickly. I hope Dakota settles in to her new home soon and I'm sur emisschick will be relieved to hear she has a loving new home too. Cheers Mojo1
misschick 01-08-2008, 05:31 PM Fantastic news Moj1..thanks for everything!
