hey ppl iam having some right trouble i have the asus P5N32-E motherbored and the q6600 2.4 cpu the bloody thing wont overlock past 2.4ghz. ive got 4 fans plus the arctic freezer 7 pro cpu cooler. ive been told that the NB and SB get really hot and is best to get an aftermarket cooler but i cant find one to fit under the arctic freezer 7 pro. iam at my wits end and getting no where.

these are the settings iam putting in.
FSB 333
Multi 9
vCore 1.4V
RAM 2.2V
NB 1.3V
thats for 3ghz
How do you know they are settings for 3Ghz on your system?
clocking rarely means 2 pc's with the same specs will perform exactly the same.
its all about trial end error. Have you done overclocking before?
start with clocking 1 part then move onto the next... ie start with the fsb. once that is running stable move onto voltage then move onto memory etc etc
have you disabled speedstep in the bios?

Have read up on the different BIOS versions. Some overclock better then others. I have the p5N-E SLI Plus and that was a bitch to get it to overclock. Tried all the latest BIOS versions but in the end I had to go back to a older BIOS for any kind of overclocking.
Quad cores are a lot harder to overclock then dual core so dont expect the same results.
Another thing i tried was BSEL pin modding. That worked on the newer BIOS`

Have a read on there.
Be very careful overclocking. I have blown a PC up before doing it and is not covered under warrenty. Do as much reading into it before you attept anything on a new board/CPU!

Looks like the 0608 BIOS is the best to try.

There is loads of memory holes on these boards mind. If I was you I would look at getting a better board. I only have a E2180 which has been known to overclock stupidly (Had it at 3.7 on my older board) but its a nightmare on this one.

what is a better bored than i have got
the Q6600 doesnt OC well unless its the SLACR version (95w)
NB and SB can get hotter, but taking it to 3Ghz shouldnt push them to the point of causing a crash.

whats the differnece between the Q6600 SLACR and the normal q6600. iam guessing most people hav got the Q6600 SLACR because theres loads of people hitting 3.6 easy on air
The SLACR is the low voltage edition - that means it uses less power for the same speed, and therefore can be overclocked further because it doesn't get as hot.
