Not a bad age for a womanizing alcoholic, maybe I should reconsider my lifestyle! Not a bad age for a womanizing alcoholic, maybe I should reconsider my lifestyle! Eh? Are you sure this is the same John Mills we all know and love? The gentleman actor who always played good eggs? Mind, I was absolutely convinced about 15 years ago that he was dead - so much so that I got quite a shock when he turned up on a chat show, talking away and full of life. I'm very sorry to hear of his death today though - he seemed a really nice, decent old bloke. StarSparkle LordSnooty 23-04-2005, 18:30 Have you seen Sir John in Great Expectations? I saw it for the first time in ages last Christmas and virtually keeled over at the wonderfulness of it. Luckily I was flat out on the settee, I mean sofa, at the time. You know, at times one is able to convince oneself that things haven't really declined that much and popular culture is alive and well. Then you, er one, sees a film like the aforementioned with it's fanastic story about love, morality, pretence, honesty, loyalty - all told through perfectly weighted performances (John Mills' especially) and the craft of cinema at it's highest level (no car chases, no CGI, no soft porn, no cynical dumbed-down, cliche ridden screenplay) - and the unavoidable wrecking ball of truth confirms that yes, after all, virtually everything in the mass media is rubbish 'these days'. 'Team America' was ace, though. And yes, yes, the car chase in French Connection is brilliant............ Lickszz 24-04-2005, 12:17 A fine actor. RIP. |
