The Proms has an entire event dedicated to Dr Who.

How come Dr Who / David Tennant / every chuffing thing suddenly has to have a Dr Who attachment. NB, this is gratuitous exaggeration for effect. Heck, there was even a Dr Who edition of Weakest Link. :gag:

The show is pointless, mindless, juvenile pap. It is not a commentary on modern society. It is not an allegory for the endless struggle between good and evil. It is not in insight into the yearnings of the human soul.

Dr Who fans set for Proms special

Doctor Who fans will get to see a specially-filmed scene starring David Tennant at a BBC Proms concert dedicated to the sci-fi drama.

The concert features music from the series, as well as classical favourites from composers including Holst and Wagner on the theme of space and time.

The special scene will be shown during the interval at London's Royal Albert Hall and on the show's website.

Fans can listen to the concert, which runs until 1300 BST, on BBC Radio 3.

Actress Freema Agyeman, who played Martha - the last-but-one assistant to Tennant's Doctor - is hosting Sunday's event.

The special scene has been written by Russell T Davies, who masterminded Doctor Who's return to TV screens in 2005 and announced recently he would be stepping down as executive producer from 2010.

It is the first appearance of Doctor Who at the BBC Proms, although a concert dedicated to the series was held at Cardiff's Millennium Centre in 2006 to raise money for Children In Need.

Methinks you're in the minority if you hate Doctor Who mate.

It's classic British sci-fi at its best.

not everyone likes 'classic British Sci-fi', in fact it is a minority pleasure, and to be honest, I am getting a bit sick of seeing Dr Who this and that all over the shop.....

do YOU see?

Did you really mean inveigling?

in·vei·gle (n-vgl, -v-)
tr.v. in·vei·gled, in·vei·gling, in·vei·gles
1. To win over by coaxing, flattery, or artful talk. See Synonyms at lure.
2. To obtain by cajolery: inveigled a free pass to museum.

Dr Who? He's not even inveigled me into watching his series yet .... :D

Yes; it was the first Prom of all to sell out, I hear ... even before the Last Night. Thus proving the sound good sense of scheduling it.

This concert also included music other than from the TV show - bit of Wagner, bit of Prokofiev - so if it gets people listening to music they wouldn't ordinarily listen to, that sort of fits with the original idea behind the Proms I think.

I am a fan of Doctor Who, or at least I used to be - it was never intended to be a prime-time saturday evening show in its early days, so it had more of a serious edge to it. But since its return 3 years ago the BBC have flogged it to death - promoting it at every possible opportunity, and I think the franchise has suffered because they have tried to make it more of a family viewing entertainment show than a serious Sci-fi program which it used to be.

I still watch it because it's probably better than most of the crap on TV, but I don't think it is anywhere near as good as it was before. It's a shame.

I've never liked Doctor Who. As Tony said, it makes no commentary on anything, something all good sci fi has historically done.

Admittedly, I only watched one episode this season, the last one but I couldn't believe how poor it was.

The acting, storyline and production values all looked absolutely awful.

I like how all those who hate the show have to vent and whine, yet those who like the show (Rich being the exception as always) just keep thier mouths shut, must say alot tbh.

Yes it does. It says that it's so bad that we can't just leave it be.

I think the Beeb are over-flooging Who, but the Proms thing is actually a good idea. the show makes good use of orchestral music and the Prom sounded great. It was also intened to be a way to get youngsters into listening to live orchestral music. The Prom also featured a lot of popular classical tunes as well as Who music.
