Hello.

I am having trouble keeping Microsoft my main configuration. Apparently I have another program that is my default wireless configuration. Unfortunately I have no idea what to do.

In the meantime I read about some steps on the internet to temporarily fix this problem. I have to go to the Control Panel and click on Performance and Maintainence. Then I click on Administrative Tools, then on services. Under services I have to scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and start the service. After that then I have to open my wireless screen and click on change preferred wireless network and right above that is a box that says use windows to configure my wireless settings. I have to click that.

I have to go through all of that just to use the internet,. It is such a pain to have to do everytime I restart my computer!!!

HELP!!! How can I figure out which program is doing this to me and my computer to prevent the wireless connection???

Thanks!!

Want to offer up what type of laptop you are using? I assume it's a laptop - doesn't have to be I suppose, in which case what type of PC and/or wireless kit?

Someone might know the answer.

My wireless is by Linksys, and has it's own software, but by doing what you describe I simply use the Microsoft software and it just works.

One thought - you say that you have started the Wireless Zero Configuration service. Did you open up it's Properties and set it to Automatic so it starts up everytime the PC boots up, or is it set to Manual?

You can choose between using the wireless device's own software or the inbuilt windows software by going to :

start > control panel > network connections > properties and then selecting the check box 'use windows to configure my wireless network settings'.

Sounds like this is what you are doing but going about it a different way. May be worth a shot trying this way - always remembers the settings for me when I go this route.

You should then be able to use the windows wireless network connection tool to connect or alternatively add your own network under 'preferred networks' in that same tab.

Download and install autoruns from the site below
Autoruns is an aid to finding which applciations are being run by what services
Allow up to 5 minutes for all the data to be collected
Select the logon tab and see if you can identify the offending progam. If found uncheck the tick box next to program and restart.
Use the Autoruns application with care!
