Im not sure if my dog has got worms. She's 12months old this month ive had her around 2months and since ive had her ive not wormed her, i bought her off someone else when she was 10months old so i dont no if she has ever been wormed.

Anyways she keeps rubbing her bum on the floor and constantly begging for food. I've not looked in her poo as i didn't realise this could be worms untill someone told me today.

Are these syptoms of worms? If i bought some worming tablets and she didn't have worms could the tablets harm her?

I've never had a dog with worms before so im not sure what to look for

Thanks

Worm her every 3 to six months, depending on the treatment instructions, regardless of whether or not she is showing signs. It won't harm her at all and it will prevent infestation and discomfort.

Oh right thanks, do i get the treatment from the vets or can you get them from pets @ home? If so what would you reccomend?

Thanks

I don't have a doggy anymore so I don't know what the best treatment is now. You can get them from the vets or the pet shop. I'm sure one of our resident dog lovers will be along shortly with a recommendation but if you ask at the pet shop they will be able to tell you.

The begging for food could simply be due to either greed or the fact that she is still young and probably still growing.

The floor dragging could be down to the discomfort of worms making her bottom itchy, or it could be that her anal glands are full and need emptying, especially if you feed her on soft food, so her #2s are too soft to automatically sort the glands out as she goes.

I would expect that if worms were making her itch that by this stage you'd see some evidence of them around her back end, or in her stools. Google for worms or look at this site to have an idea what you are looking for - http://www.wormfree.co.uk

If she does have an infestation then I'd recommend getting something from the vet to clear it out (arguably stronger/better than stuff you can get over the counter), and then once sorted maybe start a regular regime with shop bought stuff to keep her clear.

I would tend to use Dorontal its good stuff , as it does make sure , wrms can be passed to humans from dogs and can cause blindness. i do mine every 3 months as I have children coming to my home.

I'm a Drontal fan too- it costs a little more than the pet shop ones, but it treats all of the different types of worms in one dose and so much more convenient than the ones that expect you to treat more than once,

Stronghold from the vets is great, it's a bit more expensive and needs applying monthly (I think ) but it kills fleas, worms and mites, and saves trying to feed them tablets.

You can be sure then that you will never have worms fleas or mange its great stuff.

i think best thing in this case would be to take her to vets & express your concerns + you could ask them to check her over for you ,having only had her for 8weeks ,it may give you piece of mind that there`s nothing else wrong with her, hope this helps
