Now that we have some gorgeous weather, how do you keep your little ones cool.

If you mean while out and about the I put on Tayla the thinnest dress of her dresses, with or without vest or a pair of shorts and a vest top. At night she's been wearing romper suits but the type that are short sleaved and legged with just one sheet over her but of course she kicks it off! Ooh and also it's a good idea to give a baby cooled boiled water:) Mathom 26-07-2008, 10:28 Stay in when it's hot! If you go out, try and scuttle round in the shade as much as possible, go early in the day and don't put them in too many clothes or too few. Which means don't layer them up with loads of vests and whatnot, but also make sure they have long sleeves and trousers on in the sun so they do not get burned! I keep seeing people with babies either too bundled up or with too much skin exposed. Get some thin cotton tops and trousers, a good hat with a brim, a sun shade for the pram/car (you can get a UV tent for the garden or beach). Don't put a vest on under baby's clothes if it's hot. I'll take him out barefoot too so long as not too much sun will get on his feet. Watch out for baby carriers and slings and the like too, as it's like being swaddled and the closeness to mum/dad's body adds to baby's temperature! Don't add comfort blankets to the bottoms of prams and car seats either or you will have a sweaty baby ;) I have a thin low weight grobag and he sleeps in that when it's hot at night, just in his nappy. A nice bath in the evening can soothe a hot baby too. fox20thc 26-07-2008, 10:30 A nice wipe over with a cool baby wipe helps too :) (even works on grown up ;) ) Strix 27-07-2008, 13:08 if our bedroom becomes unbearably hot, we put half a dozen of those coolbox gel packs into a colander stood inside a washing up bowl and blast the desk fan at them - fantastic air conditioner at no extra cost :D the colander and bowl arrangement is thanks to the condensation created on the packs SamMT 28-07-2008, 12:20 if our bedroom becomes unbearably hot, we put half a dozen of those coolbox gel packs into a colander stood inside a washing up bowl and blast the desk fan at them - fantastic air conditioner at no extra cost :D the colander and bowl arrangement is thanks to the condensation created on the packs crikey thats clever. will try that  LilMissAlien 31-07-2008, 00:06 Same as most, just a vest or nappy when indoors (although he has learned to take his nappies that have velco tabs off, so I have to try and keep to the popper ones for now) and shorts and t-shirt when out. I try and stay out of the midday sun, especially as I burn easily myself and have to use a parasol as he won't tolerate hats at all. We also keep a fan on all day. Our flat is a bit topsy-turvy in the sense that the loft conversion is too big to just be a bedroom so we have that as a living room and downstairs where the living room was meant to be is our bedroom (bedroom 2 is an office so we all cram into the one room!). So because it's the topmost room the living room is always roasting and we have to have the skylights open all day. Thankfully our positioning on the hill means we catch a nice breeze for the most part. |
