View Full Version : If Prince Andrew came to Sheffield?
slimsid2000 25-07-2008, 16:04 Supposing HRH The Duke of York payed a royal vist to Sheffield - would you show due defference? By that I mean would you take the day off work, stand in the street to meet him and either bow or curtsey upon doing so. Also would you address him as Your Royal Highness and then Sir?
Or, would you rather sit around farting and watching Jeremy Kyle on the telly while eating pork scratching in your old vest?

Are they the only options? I haven't got a vest, but I don't fancy hanging around the streets waiting for Prince Andrew - what sort of guy do you take me for?
slimsid2000 25-07-2008, 16:18 Not a royalist obviously.
HRH visited us only a couple of months ago Sid. Were you not informed by The Palace like the rest of us were?
cgksheff 25-07-2008, 20:15 Now we see!!!!
Sorry for taking the **** all this time, your highness.
Some of us recognised your alias but were reluctant to expose you.
Can I get an MBE as well?
He flew twice into Shefield airport. As a result we decided to close it.

I want an option in the poll to say "Why"? (why give him due deference?)
(apart from him being the only royal not to "bottle" it when it came to the Falklands Conflict)

Considering the JK option:gag: I'd give him one...never mind calling him Sir. :hihi:

Yes he did, he was given a tour of Sheffield Hallam University. What a load of fuss and nonsense. I expect he was bored out of his skull and would much rather have been on the golf course.
hennypenny 25-07-2008, 22:36 He came about 18 months ago too, the local home ed children met him as he visited when they were doing their music group at a local centre.
My daughter was chosen to show him round, which gave me a bit of a weird feeling as a fervent anti-monarchist, but she enjoyed the day, which is all that really matters :)
Bloomdido 25-07-2008, 22:41 Didn't he once slip some to Koo Stark and wasn't she in the news recently about something or other?

No. It must have got lost in the post like my invitation to the garden party.
I wouldn't sit at home watching Jeremy Kyle, mainly because I don't watch him normally (although I'm from the historical home of pork scratchings, so they're never really unwelcome!).
However, I wouldn't bother to go and see him, just as I wouldn't with any other royal. Not only would I not take time out of my day to go and see any of the royal family, I would also avoid it unless there was no other alternative.

Presumably you think people should make an effort to see Royalty if they come to Sheffield - but why?
They're just people.
Do you think they are better than us mere pleb?

I couldn't care less what he is; the whole notion of deferring to someone purely on the basis of the family they were born into, is abhorrent and anachronistic.
