well funny you should say that... roller derby is a full contact sport and does involve alot of bumping the opposition team members off the track :D

Check it out....

I don't know of any roller skating teachers but there's a society at Hallam University (not running over summer but will probably start up at the end of sept) that organises Ice skating tuition. I don't think you have to be a student to join and it's much cheaper than going another way. I know it's not the same as roller skating but it might be a start.

Ta, I might come and have a go on Sunday, can I hire skates/boots as I don't own any anymore?

You would need your own boots to come on sunday at Graves unless you're a size 5, we only have one pair of spare skates at the moment. If you come on tuesday Skate Central do skate hire for a couple of quid.

One other thing! You must be over 18 as its a full contact sport!

Where abouts do you skate and when? i could do with extra practice as I have some tests comming up. How much does it cost? And how many people skate there? is it all about speed skating on inlines or quads coz I skate quads. Sorry for all the questions

we skate at skate central on tuesdays from 6pm then our propper practice is on sundays at 3m at graves leisure centre. altogether we have about 12 people but it depends who can make practice. we only skate on quads and its mostly about skills for now, getting all the techniques down for now - it woudl be great for someone who knew what they were doing to see if were skating 'propper' and doing corss overs and such. we need a ring master! :o) ring me if youre still interested. em x

Skate central is just down the road from me. I can show you cross overs etc What kind of skating do you do?

I am an artistic roller skater. This type of quad skating is like what you see when ice skating is on television. There are 2 types of artistic roller skating. Well 3 actually. Theres free skating which is all the jumps and spins etc (I dont do this) There is also dance which is what I like to do as well as figures which is nother I am not too keen on. Figures is where you have to skate perfect edges in a circle both backwards and forwards.

Now a little bit about myself:
Im started skating when I was 11 and skated in Darwen, Lancashire for 6 years. I then left to go to university and then rejoined at Leeds Skating Club for several weeks. I wasnt too keen on this club and found myself to be pregnant so left again. Now I had my baby girl caled Lucy in May this year at the age of 20 and decided i wanted to start skating again. So i rejoined a club that a previous coach of mine set up in Bolton, Lancashire. I have been skating for a couple of months now and am still getting back into the swing of things. Doesnt help either that i have got myself some new Riedell skates and so feel like a beginner again lol. I passed all of my grades when i was 16. And since returning to the sport they have all changed so I have got to redo them at the end of this month. I am also going to be doing my Elimentary/ Preliminary tests at the same time. In December i will be doing a competition down in lecestershire. I am not an amazing skater so dont think I am but i can show you edges, cross rolls ect.

I would be able to pop in on Tuesday night if you wish. Would it be free?

tuesday night would be great - i wont be there then becaus eive had an operation on my foot but ill forward your message to some of the girls who will be there. if you text me ill pass your number onto them too. we are all just getitng into skating , i think the skating for roller derby is kinda a mix of everything - here is a link to our website (which is currently under construction ) if u wanna have a gander of what we're about. lookign forward to meeting you. it woudl be great if are free one sunday to come along to the practice at graves leisure centre. (we can arrange a lift for you if you dont have transport) we have a sports hall to ourselves then. the only downside about a tuesday is that its a public skating session, with disco lights and loud music. but its good to practice techniques and everything.
look forward to meeting you!

Hi I do have my own transport however due to me skating in Bolton on a Sunday 10-1pm I wouldnt get back to Sheffield untill 3pm. So dont think i'll be able to make it as I have a 4 month old daughter who wont have seen her mummy since 8.30am.

I skate Saturdays and Sundays however this is only up until my tests at the end of the month. After that I think I will go back to skating just one of the days. If I happen to skate on a Saturday instead of a Sunday one week I will be happy to come along. You could change your skating day or time at Graves Leisure Centre to a weekday night (except Wednesday) for one week if they have any slots and I will definately be able to come along.

I have been to skate central once and wasnt overly keen on the type of floor. Too unsmooth for my liking.

Do you want to meet me outside Skate Central this comming Tuesday at 7pm then I know who im looking for.

My mobile number is 07707257515 if you want it to give to the other girls.

Hi Lottie!

Here's the link to our website..

Sheffield Roller Derby (http://web.mac.com/emmalouise2/iWeb/sheff/SteelCityRebels.html)

We aren't too keen on the floor at Skate central either, curly plastic tiles aren't the best, we're trying to find some where with a proper floor for tuesdays.

Look forward to seeing you on tuesday :-)
