View Full Version : Online DVD Rental Sites

I used to have one through Tesco and they used Video Island, but then changed to using LoveFilm, but I found when they switched to Love Film that the service went really poor. I've been tempted to set one up with Love Film recently just for one disc at a time. They always seem to have offers on.
Anybody else use them, or reccommend another company?
Beakerzoid 25-07-2008, 01:45 PM I was with whomever it was before LoveFilm and have actually noticed an improvement in service since the switch. I'm on the 2 discs at a time Unlimited offer, and we go through a load of discs (I also signed up at the time they had an offer for games rentals included for no extra cost, so have that benefit too at teh cheaper price). We send discs back and two days later get the next pair, watch them that night, post the next morning....2 days later etc etc. I have split the deliveries into two lists, one for my wife and one for me, so the balance of stuff is pretty good (I have the BluRay titles on my list, and also games and music DVDs, whilst she loads it with all the films I saw at the pictures but she didn't).
The only gripe I have with Lovefilm is their 'submit first review and be entered into a prize draw' on the website. All this ends up with is the first review is either "This film will be good!" or "The trailer looks awesome!" or "(insert official synopsis of film from official website here)" which means the real first reviews never get a look in.

That'd be a really good idea actually! I know you mentioned it a while ago, but I'd forgotton entirely about it! You already know I don't hate watching films, I just prefer to watch them in our living room! So, you being the film junkie that you are, kinda kills two birds with one stone doesn't it dear?:)

Oh yeah, didn't think of that:suspect:
As long as there aren't too many explosions, I'm pretty easy:P
steelhead31 25-07-2008, 05:04 PM I currently use lovefilm, Ive had no problems with service, and on the one occassion I've had a scratched disc, reported it via the website, and they sent a replacement even before the one I'd got had been returned. I gather cancelling your subscription is slightly harder though, and you cant do that through the website. The discs always arrive the day after lovefilm say they've been dispatched too.
Forgot to mention you can set up multiple lists of dvd's you want to see, so you could each have your own, and they alternatively send you a disc from each, assuming something is available...
EdnaKrabappe 25-07-2008, 05:22 PM I used to use Amazon.com and never had any problems with them. Tended to use them for box sets of something as i like films at the cinema. If I went over the amount a month i just used to pay extra. I don't subscribe now due to cost cutting but that's the only reason... i found them really good and prompt at sending. Sometimes i'd get one within three days of the sending back!

Good job you're not married then, I'm pretty sure that would be valid grounds for a quicky divorce! :hihi:
steelhead31 05-08-2008, 04:44 PM If you are still after an online DVD rental, lovefilm have just sent me a couple of VIP passess enabling a new subscriber to have 3 months free rental.. If anybody is interested drop me a pm..
ridish 06-08-2008, 11:28 AM currently with lovefilm. have been with them for about 2 years. only ever had 1 faulty disc. i try to kepp my list fairly short, then i know i will get the films i actually want, rather than those i can wait for.
highly recommend. plus you can get games too! awesome stuff. £15 for 3 discs at once (inlcuding games). apart from my cineworld card, this is my best direct debit!
I'm with Tesco DVD rental, might bin them and go back to Amazon's service at some point though, as Amazon have a better selection.. The only thing stopping me is that the Tesco one's actually cheaper and I get Clubcard points from it, which comes in handy because I do most of my food shopping at Tesco on Infirmary Road.
youwhatref 06-08-2008, 09:16 PM Ditto for Lovefilm. I had 3 months free unlimited DVD's which was great. However now i'm wtaching less of them i've swapped to 2 DVD's at a time twice a month (so 4 DVD's a month) which cost £ 7.99. Like many have mentioned, its generally a few days before they arrive or on average of 3 to 4 days turnround from popping them in the post to getting the new ones.
Stainboy 21-08-2008, 04:00 PM First one of these I ever used was called Moviemine, they were pretty small I think but happy to put up with the constant address changes I put them through.
I'm crap at these things though, I just never get round to watching the films I get delivered so decided it's actually more worth it for me to buy DVDs considering how cheap they are these days.
DaFoot 22-08-2008, 02:54 PM I'm with LoveFilm and been mostly happy with their service.
I've created a second list for my missus... is it possible to create a separate login for her to manager her own list on the same account?
I've tried contacting LoveFilm but get no reply (nor have I for several repeated attempts to communicate about other stuff... see 'mostly' happy above ;) ).
Stainboy 22-08-2008, 05:54 PM If she's got her own seperate list in your account can't she just login in using your username? It's not like she's going to sabotage your account details ;)
goldenfleece 24-08-2008, 09:32 PM I use Blockbuster 5 DVD's at a time online package...always very good.....they have almost everything I could ever want......

Three days? Tesco send within 2 days! :D
Send a disc back, they get it next day, and post the next disc out straight awa, usually comes next day unless I post the original back on a Saturday, then they get it Monday, and next one is here by Wednesday at the latest.
