Hello,
Can anybody please help? I'm looking to purchase a wheelchair for my partner, it needs to be a large chair, suitable for someone of 20+ stone, and collapsable (so we can fit it into the cars boot).
Thanks

You'll need to acquire a bariatric chair, if your partner is over 20- stone.
Standard adult wheelchairs are only 16/ 18 inches in width, and would not be suitable for someone over about 16 stone in weight:- your OH may need something with a seat in the region of 20/ 22 inches in width.
The Ministry (National Health Service) can supply a manual wheelchair to "fit " your OH.
you need to contact your GP, and ask for a referral for your OH, to the Wheelchair and appliance Centre at the Northern General.
They will measure your OH, and provide a chair for their needs. It may take a few weeks to get the appointment, and then another month or two to actually supply the chair, once it has been prescribed.
I needed a specialist manual chair, as my former OH was 6'6 tall, and could not stoop to hold the handles, as they were too low on a standard height chair. The ministry supplied me with a chair with extra- high, built-up handles, so OH could reach them without injuring his back.
PS, the manual chairs should "collapse" small enough to go in a standard car-boot
