I am a great lover of East Asian food, particularly Chinese or Thai. My absolute favourite is the Thai noodle dish called Phad (or Pad) Thai, which comes in various forms. Has any one else on the forum tried it? What is your oriental favourite dish?

I haven't tried pad thai, I think my favourite asian dish is malaysian kway teow, its a greasy flat noodle in sauce with veg and sometimes meat too. Oh god its making my mouth water thinking about it. I lived in malaysia for 6 years and people always ask me what I miss expecting me to say the weather - nope, its the food!

You mean the soon-to-be-outlawed crispy duck? The ovens used to make it don't have a CE mark and have been shut down by Westminster safety inspectors, soon to be followed by other councils no doubt.

As for favourite oriental dish - there's too many to choose from and a good oriental meal should be made up of a combination of dishes. If I were to make a list it would be far too long.

I love pad thai, I love green thai curry, I really really love stir fried duck with ginger and spring onions. I'm quite easily pleased actually- as long as it doesn't have peppers in it I'll give most dishes a go.

I love Szechuan Hot Pot where you cook your own food in a big boiling communal bowl containing a very spicy soup base. It used to be served at Jabu on London Road until they got closed down by the Noodle Inn.

My favorite is Malaysian Peranakan or Nonya food which is a fusion of mainly Malay,Chinese,Indonesian,Indian foods.I also lived and worked in Singapore for over 5years.I am going to East Malaysia in 6 weeks time and am looking forward to the authentic food.
Probably Laksa is my number 1 dish, with rendang a close second.

Ampang Yong Tou Foo, Ampang Fishball Noodle (the belacan is amazing), Damansara SS22 Bak kut teh, Cheras Curry Fishhead, Curry noodles, Dry curry noodles (Curry is also referred to as Laksa in the northern and southern part, Asam Laksa is another story, so sometimes it get confused), Koon Kee Kon Low Mien and BBQ fish (at Petaling Street), Fried Koay Teow, Nasi Lemak, Roti canai, Nasi Tomato (tomato rice), Nasi Briyani (Briyani Rice)..... whoops gone off topic, but I just have to mention all these stuff. Fookien Noodle, Cantonese style fried vercimili.

Too much to recall tho.... there is still a lot (more than 50 dishes). I don't copy all these names from recepies book. They are all Malaysian foods. Always ask the locals to show you the best place to eat. Been there and.... its food heaven. Cheap as chips too. Well..... gain few stones too :(

Or this. (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y93/chubbyhubby/mingkeeduck1.jpg)

Sometimes you can use it as an ingredient in ..
Roast Pork Pastry (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3118/2574971087_962b08e310.jpg)
or...
Steamed Roast Pork Bun (http://www.emperorrestaurant.co.uk/Images/Dim%20Sum/320/Char-Siu-Pao-320.jpg)

I just like it served with boiled rice. Nothing more. Classic.
