Hi I am thinking of renting a room to a student or two from this autumn. Where can I advertise for this and what is the best way to get "safe" well behaved non-smoking students. Do the colleges have list of students looking for rented rooms?

What will they want to chekc in my house?

Hi there, you want to speak to accommodation and campus services at uni, you'll be able to get their contact details off the uni website. There is also a house wanted/available board opposite reception in the Union building, ask at reception for a card to put up. I think these cards have an option for saying you want non-smoking. You can always arrange to meet to get "safe" students - we're not that bad, I promise. Most people will have found places by now(for some reason rooms start getting contracted out at Christmas in Sheffield) but Erasmus students(foreign uni students who just come for a term) will be looking when they arrive. Uni will be able to advise you best.

Also, the mighty facebook allows free classifieds, this comes with the added benefit of being able to snoop at their profile to check whether they're right for you!
