Hay is a night mare lately isn't it Peaches? I usually get compressed but the price goes up and up and most pet shops won't sell it now
With hay being so expensive at the moment and unfortunately I have no storage space here for a bale, if 2 or 3 people in my area would like to share a bale it would save us all loads of money, what do you think folks?

Single small bags are stupidly priced. For a single bag you'd get a bale cheaper

Have you tried online from the Dust Free Hay Company. One small bag fills a wheeli bin and a large bale fills 7-8 wheelie bins. It's lovely stuff, all the boarders here are given it.

Just had a look at the Dust Free Hay, thanks holidayhutch, £15.99 for 2 bales delivered isn't to bad, and you can have a bale of hay and a bale of straw if you like which is good for bedding, just need someone who might like to share now and we are away :hihi:.

Good hay is hard to find so i would go for this offer , I think that if they deliver to sheffield i could use that , I use probably 3/4 wheelies bin fuls aweek so that would be good for me .

Ive just gone back to compressed hay lately cos the bale that i usually get has been rubbish and the pigs are leaving more than they are eating. I got a large compressed bag from jollyes for £4 and it lasts my 11 about 2-3 weeks.

I recently bought a bag of hay from pets at home and it seems to be a real winner. Its not terribly cheap but there is no waste as the bunny is hoovering it up rather than throwing it about and ignoring it.

Not sure what it is, but it has the rabbit seal of approval - and if he approves of it, it must be good.

The pet shops in Hillsborough always seem to have nice hay. I'd love to find somewhere that will deliver a bale for reasonably cheaply!

The problem with hay from a petshop's view is that the margins aren't good on it and it's bulky to store so that might be why it's getting more difficult to buy.

The best I can do is £2 for a bag and £11.50 for a bale but by the looks the online place that was posted earlier seems to be better!

The only problem for me is getting it delivered I've sourced it for £2.50 a bale

No need to get snappy - it was only meant in jest.
I'll now go back to my tea with a red hand mark on my face.

Yes it is. We go and collect in person several times a year and have seen the process it goes through. It is dust extracted 14 times and comes packed in slices so it's really easy to get out of the sack. The large jumbo bales are £26.99 delivered (£18 if you collect in person) and comes in soft or stalky hay, each jumbo bag is equal to 7-8 small bales and each small bale fills a wheelie bin.

I usually buy bags of Timothy hay from Pets at Home, it usually costs £2.99 but noticed other day that it's gone up to just over £3. Im not to keen on the ordinary meadow hay, mine prefer a larger thicker type.

Wouldn't have the space to store a large bale especially as shed is full of Megazorb, and there is no way I would swap that, I love it:love:

It does come in sacks but I don't know how much it would be, you can buy it direct from the manufacturer at Rotherham I think but then you would need a car.

Do you know which ones?

My piggies are currently on Pets at Home muesli but they always leave all the wheat seed type stuff and just like the green, yellow and orange bits. they won't even look at nuggets, so I am trying to find a mix without loads of seed bits.

You cannot guarantee that wild rabbits have not been near the grass which has been made into hay. As mixy is widespreed you are going to have to go to very extreme length to ensure you hay is 'clean'.

The only thing you can do is protect your rabbit(s) by vaccination against mixy.

Do you mean Pets at Home in Heeley retail park? I live in Heeley and can't think of another pet shop in area.

The pet shop at Firth park stocks it and also delivers for £1 if it's not too far.

Can the myxi disease live on in hay then? Even when it has been dried out, dust extracted and stored? I'm shocked if it does.

As it is caused by a virus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myxomatosis) I would imagine it is very hardy and surviving in hay therefore shouldn't be a suprise :(
