I did a two year dancing course at college and was able to do the splits as the teacher was quite strict and more or less forced our legs apart!
I finished that course over a year ago, and tried to do the splits for the first time since last night.
I did the box splits and was able to get about 3 inches off the floor but something in my inner thigh seemed to make a crack noise and now i can barely walk today lol, i look like i have bowed legs...
Could that crack noie be anything serious?

I didn't reply because personally I can't ( will try when I've limbered up ), and didn't know whether you meant "can anyone do the splits?" meaning people in general from a biological point of view, or "can anyone on the forum do the splits".
Then you mentioned cracks and thighs, which sent me off on a tangent.

I was in the audience at Luton Ritz in 1965 when PJ Proby split his trousers if that's any help

Yes I can do the splits and would say what you've descibed sounds like a tendon/ligament injury. Did you warm up before attempting to do the splits? A visit to the walk in centre may be in order - no pun intended

Apparently NO I can't.
See you at the walk in centre.....

Hi

I can't do the splits to save my life! But know a tad about strains and it sounds like you may have a groin strain, this can be very painful but the best thing you can do is gentle swimming or cycling.
Don't take my word for it though, get it checked out if it stops you from walking properly for a while... good luck!

thankyou! if it doesnt feel any better then i mite have to seek advice from a proffessional.
i did warm up before doing it, but like i said i've not done it for ages, and i got 3 inches from the floor and was determined to reach the floor so i pushed myself harder than i probably should have.

I'm 33 and can still do them. I have a try every now and again. (silly, I know)

YOU MUST warm up first though and ease yourself into it. The crack won't be anything serious, probably a strain and it will ease.

If you keep easing yourself, rather than forcing yourself to touch the floor, over a few hours, days etc you won't get a strain.

I absolutely cannot do the splits and if I ever did, I would never walk again. I'm sure its not a natural thing to do :)

i learnt to do the splits when i studies ballet, i gave that up when i was about 10/11 and never tried them again until a few years ago when i started yoga and became all limber again! It took me a while to get back it into it but now its my party piece!!! :D
