Ok, my children found a frog in their sand pit that they don't use anymore and decided that they'd like to keep it as a sort of wildlife (frog ) pond. I haven't got a clue what to put in it, around it to make it useful and look pretty :D.
Any suggestions welcome!

Will it hold water? If itll hold water then fill it with rain water from a barrel if possible, if not put tap water in it and leave it for a day or so before adding animals.
How deep is it? How wide is it...?

It is a turtle sand pit :hihi: We left the rain water in it and then added the water from a bucket which we've seen frogs in. Then they put a frog in that was hanging around. Just wanted to make it look a bit more picturesque!(sp?)

Frogs also tend to return to the pond they were 'born' in to breed, so to be certain of some of your own you'll need a bit of frog-spawn in the spring.

If the conditions are right the wildlife will come. Stick it in a quieter area and put piles of stones or lags near or round it, Frogs will spend most of the time in there. Stick one or two pond plants in for shelter and a couple of stones in near the edge so that wildlife can get in and out easily. If you want more frogs dont add fish as they eat the tadpoles. Apart from sticklebacks they dont. Try not to put anything from other ponds into yours as cross contamination is one of the biggest reasons in our native frogs decline. If the conditions are right the frogs will come. Frogs are not not that fussy either. We had frogs living in a wallpaper bucket left out in the rain. We sunk it into the ground and it has been full of wildlife ever since. Also add a few plants around it for frogs and things to hide in. When it comes to ponds what surronds it is as important as whats in it.

I just did exactly this last week and one week later there are HUNDREDS of black wriggling creatures the shape of tadpoles..... but i thought they were spawned in spring? What are they likely to be?:loopy:
