View Full Version : Appeal on behalf of the charity C.A.T.S.
Moonbird 23-07-2008, 20:12 The wonderful cat charity C.A.T.S is still having great difficulties, as a forum we have pulled together and helped Jackie before.
I am afraid that she is back to square one once again, with no funding and barely enough money to keep going for much longer, if anyone has any good ideas now would be a good time to bring them up.
Jackie has also had some great donations of bric a brac that she is going to sell on a stall soon, but has no where to store it, does anyone has a spare room or secure shed that she could keep the stuff in until her stall comes up?
Please any help that anyone can offer would be very gratefully received at this time, come on people of Sheffield we need people like Jackie who so selflessly work for the vulnerable and helpless, that others cast out. :help:
helenasq 23-07-2008, 20:15 That's bad news moonbird. How can people help? Is it donations of money, food, blankets etc or more of a volunteering thing? I'm sure that everyone will do everything that they can for such a good cause. Just let me know if I can do anything

It is really bad news
At the moment I know that she is in desperate need of a storage space for the donations that she has received, she also needs donations of money desperately, I will ask about the blankets etc.
It will be a sad day for south Yorkshire animals if C.A.T.S folds
jackie will be selling this weekend on saturday at bellhouse working mens club table top sale she needs all the help she can
Moonbird 23-07-2008, 21:03 I have just rang Jackie to clarify the situation, there is a table top sale at Bellhouse Rd WMC at 12 noon on Saturday 26th July.
Jackie is however looking for storage on a more permanent basis, and it needs to be somewhere that she can access to take stuff out and put stuff in as need be, a secure shed would be great for this...heres hoping
Rainrescue 23-07-2008, 21:42 Or even if someone has a shed that they could give her to be put up at the bottom of her cat pens would be useful i think.
Surely there must be some people in the surrounding area that care enough to help her keep going? Donations of time and money are needed. Jackie does all this to help the cats of that area and many other areas. It makes me cry some of the stories that i hear that she has to face - i know i couldn't do it. Thank god someone does.
The least we can do is support her every step of the way.
I have sent her a donation over from Rain today to at least keep the vet bill from her door for the time being. Every little helps.
If I can get my landlord to empty his stuff out of our garage then I'd be happy to store it. He has been promising for months but still hasn't! Hopefully someone will be able to offer who is closer though, I am the other side of Sheffield :(
Hope Jackie can get above water again.
charlie10 25-07-2008, 14:10 You can make donatins to the charity too through paypal

Moonbird 26-07-2008, 13:47 Just an update for those who are interested.... the table top sale was rather slow, but we still managed to raise between £85 and £90 for C.A.T.S so thats brilliant!
And a big thanks to the three Ladies who didn't buy but just donated some money, you are all stars  thank you very much :D
DiamondGirl 26-07-2008, 14:46 Hi Moonbird,
Are you back helping with cats now? sorry I havent been on msn but my internet is down :(
Rainrescue 26-07-2008, 14:48 WHIPPPEEEEE - that may not sound a lot - but i know it is a huge amount to them
thanks everyone who turned up and gave Jackie a hand and especial thanks to Moonbird - I know its not easy - but its fantastic - lets hope we pull in more support for anyone that wants to go and help these little puss cats who live close enough to help
I think they are going to have one each saturday aren't they?
thanks again - keep up the good work
helenasq 26-07-2008, 19:00 What area of sheffield is C.A.T.S in?
Has anyone tried a "Sponsor a Cat" plea? I was reading that Jackie has long term cats, and thought maybe if a poster was done with a picture of each cat and it's story they could be put up in shop windows or at work places to get more regular donations. I'd certainly put some up in my work. I'm thinking of something in the vein of the cancer research scheme where you pay £2 per month. At least then she'd get some more regular money coming in maybe? Or has this been tried already?
Rainrescue 26-07-2008, 20:47 Helensq - C.A.T.S is at Firth Park in Sheffield - and i know that as well as them caring for all their own 22 or more at the sanctuary itself - she feeds about another 25 that wander in from the allotments. She goes to the steel works and bank sides to feed ferrals there that they have already trapped, neutered and released - as well as helping hundreds of people around the area with neutering and rehoming/helping with their cats. She really is a tough saint.
Joey - it certainly isn't something thats been tried before, and is a really good idea. We are just looking at doing some posters to circulate with the pound dogs on and realised its a good idea. Maybe some cat friendly person would like to start looking at that for her? Each cat has its own story - and there are at least 22 that I know of.
Rainrescue 27-07-2008, 09:15 I spoke to Jackie this morning and she wanted to thank everyone for their help.
Also, today she had 2 packets of cat food and just 1 tin of food.
When she woke up a lovely gentleman had driven over from Chesterfield and brought her 95 tins of cat food - what a lovely couple of days.
Now we are searching for a shop - around Firth Park, (Sicey Avenue, Bellhouse Road, Stubbin Lane or Hadfield House Lane). We think we may be able to run one and run it between C.A.T.S. and Rain Rescue.
If anyone has got any ideas where there could be somewhere to rent - or any ideas about it - please let us know. I will start a new thread
I feel a bit useless...I dont have a shed and I dont have any money spare either, but what I do have is my time. I would love to help out with anything I can. I am in S8, not far from helenasq actually. (Lowedges/Greenhill). I still dont know Sheffield very well, only having lived here for 4 months, but want to help however possible.
I have a mixture of tins and packets of cat food , that my girl isn't partial to. Will Jackie accept any brand? I can sort her them out and take them when I am better if so. I have that awful flu bug at the mo and also a damaged tendon in my ankle , so I am not too mobile right now.
Kath
My husband and I have produced charity mugs before to raise money for a horse sanctuary. We make them pretty much at cost for charities. If this is any use or help let me know!
Hope I havent broken any forum rules mentioning a very small family business! :o
Rainrescue 28-07-2008, 17:22 Misschick - time is just as valuable as money or items. Its one of the precious things that people don't usually give for a variety of reasons. I am sure they would love any help - either at the sanctuary itself - or in some of the new fundraising ventures that they are trying. pm me and i can send u the number if you can't find it on the site
Kath - Jackie usually takes in anything and everything. often they get donated some food that the poorly cats can't eat - but then its used on the younger ferrals from the allotments - nothing gets wasted - so yep - drop it off, or ask people to pm u if they are close by and could drop off 4 u
Sezbetz - i think that would be a great idea - but they don't have any money to buy anything to hold until they sell them - so how would it work?
Would have to talk to my husband about details, but we could either sell them through a website or perhaps produce a small number to be taken to table top sales etc. PM me if you want anymore details. Im sure there is a way we could work something out - even it it was just to produce one or two to see how they went.
We are big animal lovers and have a menagerie at home so love to help out charities if we can. The horse ones we did were advertised and sold when ordered. It would really depend what is easiest. We can also do other items eg keyrings, magnets, coasters. All we need is text and a pic and we can produce specifically to order.
Like I say PM if you want to discuss as I dont want to get into trouble for talking about a business on the forum!
Rainrescue 28-07-2008, 17:41 ok - will pm u
Rainrescue 31-07-2008, 23:16 We have put some new pictures up on our website of the inside of the C.A.T.S. shelter.
http://www.rainrescue.co.uk/sheffield-cats.htm
Its not easy to tell from these pictures just what the sanctuary is like. Its just in a long back garden of a tiny terraced house. It uses up every inch of space and is literally small sheds made up of every type of material you could think of.
Jackie makes you so humble to think what she has used to build her place - and it to be so warm and welcoming in the process. I have also got a few videos that I took when we went up because Rain Rescue donated a load of cat pouches that we had managed to buy cheap for them.
Anyone tell me how i get the videos into a photobucket account (non techo member here)
I must also add that although the C.A.T.S. sanctuary is home for at least 22 resident cats - plus many popping in ferrals, and kittens (on their way for rehoming). This place never ever smells. She cleans it out all the time. All the cats use newspaper and she would never use litter in case it sticks to their paws, and then they lick it. I think it must be the cleanest cattery i have ever gone into.
Don't forget everyone - she really needs donations - the last bout have totally gone. We at RR have just donated her some money towards the last vet bill - but she needs so much to keep going.
good luck C.A.T.S.
Moonbird 31-07-2008, 23:57 Lets hope the table top sales take off I'm sure that will help just a bit if we can do them regularly... the shop would be better, any news on that Rain?
Hi this is my first post. Have known Jackie a few years and visited today for first time in a while. She asked me to let you all know about the progress of the 3 cerebral palsy cats .They are now 8 months old and have been neutered and microchipped and are all doing well and happy with life.
Jackie is as always in need of food (whiskas/felix pouches) and also kitten food.
2 new kitten arrivals today.
