A rottie or several being used to deter crime.

We have a Rottie she is our baby but when she's out in the garden she lets everyone know she's there, i'm sure she is great for crime provention

On the other hand nobody risks upsetting me when Takara is in tow and she's a spotty dog...

I think rotties are likely to stop burglars etc to premises, but most medium - large breed dogs would make a mugger think twice.

I feel a whole lot safer outdoors when I'm with my dobe and she's certainly earned her keep a few times seeing off scary drunken wierdos approaching me in the park and that's without me encouraging her natural protection/guarding ability.

I recently read somewhere that rotties are being considered more for police work too. although I don't know if the rottie build is ideal for all that running around chasing low life and tea-leafs? Other than that, they are a working breed and happiest doing a job (and let's face it, no one's going to argue with a powerfully built rottie), so I don't see why the police wouldnt want to make use of the breed, except maybe they are not quite as high up the intelligence spectrum as GSDs, Labs or Dobes, which tend to be http://www.petrix.com/dogint/1-10.htmlthe obvious choice for protection or tracking work. rotties are indded being used more and more in police work, they were interested in my bitch but sadly she was too young and now I don't have the heart to let her go.

i myself have always had german shepherd dogs, but saying that i have three or four friends with rotties which are all great dogs, just like big cuddly teddy bears and i would myself given the opportunitty not hesitate to own one. i always say that there isnt a bad dog its the bad owners and how they bring them up.

I was attacked by a man in 1995, I now have some disability, he went to jail. I have never been without a dog that would defend me since then When I lost my Rottie last year, I felt very vulnerable. I heard once of a woman killed on a canal walk with 2 weimaraners with her, no harm would come to me, and once you know it can happen you feel less trusting of people.
