View Full Version : Blueyonder and windows xp service pack 2, no connection
micksheff 21-04-2005, 21:38 I've had my computer repaired, it has been upgraded to windows xp service pack 2. Problem is I can no longer connect to the internet.
I rang blueyonder, who said it is a known issue with blueyonder broadband users, something to do with windows firewall and gave me microsofts number.
Does anyone know how to overcome this issue?
LordChaverly 21-04-2005, 22:28 Can't you disable the Windows firewall and use another firewall such as ZoneAlarm?
tom_a_west 21-04-2005, 22:28 have you turned off the firewall, I have to say that SP2 is rather poor in terms of how useful it is. there is another thread that will guide you to better free firewalls and other what-nots.
damn you lordchaverly, you beat me to it. lol
I use Blueyonder and windows xp service pack 2 and have no problems at all. My "Modem" is connected through my network card, I know that some users have problems when using the USB port.
Not sure as I've broken my XP machine, but it should work. I'm guessing that in the exceptions list there should be something ticked but I can't remember what the options are from memory.

Mine works fine as above but with USB 2

I am still savouring my few nanoseconds of fame as a Forum techspert
I assume your PC had a firewall before SP2 was put on, if so then you can just disable XP Firewall.
Start > (Settings >) Control Panel > Double Click Windows Firewall and put a dott in OFF.
Actually, if you know your firewalls, XP SP2 firewall is as configurable as a Linux Smoothwall box. I've got my box tied down completely except what I need open...
I don't know that I would trust it on it's own, but combined with a router it is all I use.
micksheff 22-04-2005, 13:15 Thanks all
I turned off windows firewall and then start - control panel -network connections- local area connection -properties - Internet protocol - click "Obtain an IP address automatically"- click ok and voila its all system go.
