View Full Version : What's the worst photo gaffe you've ever made?
ImpInaBox 22-07-2008, 10:16 One of my first jobs as a wedding photographer's assistant was to load and unload '120' rolls in the 'Bronnie' Despite a number of training sessions when it all seemed so easy, I still managed, at a rather grand wedding, to load 2 rolls in back to front - emulsion away from the lens! Not an auspicious career start!
Anybody else care to admit to c***ing it up behind the camera? And if you still have the results it would be fun to see some them.
None - I'm perfect, see?
There have been a few occasions when I forget to take lens cap off and looking a bit silly, but that's about it :(
I'm going to have to change that - watch out on the next meet! :)

I do that fairly frequently >_<
ImpInaBox 22-07-2008, 11:08 Agghh - somebody changed the title of this thread. :suspect: 'Mistake' doesn't alliterate with 'photo' like the original. Can we have something more poetic?
Not buying a better lense before I went to Africa was the biggest mistake I've made. I took two, an 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. I just kept the 55-200mm on for 90% of the time as we were charging about on a 4x4 truck, really not stable enough to do a rapid lense change when needed. We also couldn't move about very much sometimes due to the lions staring right at us! :) I missed out on quite a few up close shots due to this. :(

I blame DaFoot... he's a moderator now :P
Don't blame DaFoot- it was my fault. Apologies for the lack of alliterative title, but I'm afraid that it just couldn't stay as it was. I'm sure that the GLs will happily change it for you if you can think of another (non swear) way of making it more interesting.

Not your fault medusa... it's Imp's for being so rude! :)

erm.... I think ' :P ' is about the only thing I can say to that :D

Gonna have to watch it with you on future meets aren't we... ;)
shirleyF 23-07-2008, 13:04 In the days before digital I went to Belgium to attend my brothers wedding.
No one was taking photos, so I whipped out my Chinon c4 and took loads of
pictures of the bride and groom. I had them sat on a bench in the garden all lovey dovey, then I shot the bride on the stairs with the sun streaming down behind her and rimlighting her (fantastic).
I moved on to use a mirror and caught some wonderful and subtle poses.
I had a whale of a time and did myself proud.
Later that night we all went for a meal and had a great time too.
THE NEXT DAY, we awoke and after breakfast decided to tour Brussels.
Not being stupid I knew I had to change the film in my camera, so I got a
new film from my bag and placed it on the sideboard. I took the exposed film from the camera and placed it on the sideboard also. you know the rest, don't you.
Needless to say my sister in law was very frosty with me for a long time afterwards. Her parents have not spoken to me to this day. This was thirty years ago, and I have improved since then.
Anon. (joke)
ImpInaBox 23-07-2008, 13:50 You managed to rewind the film without the tail disappearing back into the cannister? I could never manage that - had to use a tin opener to get into Kodak cannisters!
I took loads of photos on holiday only to discover I'd forgotten to put a film in the camera:loopy:
- Vincent - 26-07-2008, 18:55 I was wearing some protective clothing 'cause I was shooting the grass which grow in the street: you can imagine me on the pavement with my camera and everybody looking at me. Yet I didn't care and had a great time.
The only problem is that I still do not remember where the film is: I did this "grass session" a year ago...
maniclee 26-07-2008, 22:16 I moved house and lost 10 years of prints, slides and negs. All of my A'level stuff, photos of local bands and stuff. Sickens me every day.

That was quite easy to do as there is a distinct release in tension just as film decouples from slot on right side. You have to rewind a bit more slowly and carefully though.
What is also quite easy to do is to forget to load film and if using motor wind, you do not notice the lack of tension when advancing. Oops! Did that on a couple of occasions.
