Hi
We got a beautiful rescue dog 2 weeks ago. She is a saluki and being new to owning a dog would be grateful for any advice anyone has. She is mainly house trained - had a few accidents and walks really well off the lead. She loves to run and has always come back . I think because she is a rescue and is also so placid we have all given her loads of love but this week she has started to mouth both myself and my daughter and obviously i don't want this to become a habit. she seems to have adopted my husband as leader of the pack. All the sites i have researched about salukis about say that they will become attached to one person which is fine but i need to establish the redt of the family as higher pack members.

I've moved this to the pets group, where you should get lots of informed replies.

two to three weeks is about the length of time any dog takes to assess the household it's moved into and to decide if it's worth doing a bit of pack climbing

Do you allow your new dog privileges to make up for her past?

What's your husband doing differently to you and your daughter?

Yes i think we are trying to make up for her past and to be honest my husband is very soft with her. I am going to stick to some basic rules eg feeding her last and not letting her enter before us and see if that sorts things out.
She is a lovely placid dog but maybe we have confused her as to the pecking order by being soft with her.

anna's advice is one thing I was going to suggest too  lots of people who understand what makes the sight hound breeds tick :)

Are you also keeping her on the floor and not allowing her on the furniture with you?
