I am surprised to see no comments about the fantastic performance of Mark Cavendish the Isle of Man cyclist.

The youngest Brit to win a stage.
The only Brit to win four stages (so far)
Fastest cyclist over 200 metres .
Or is every one waiting until he wins in Paris? Unless he goes to the Olympics.

Yeh theres a massive difference between sprinters and those that challenge for the Tour. Fantastic acheivements as a sprinter but it doesnt mean much in the scheme of things, lets hope he can make it to Paris!

He is part of a team,he is doing his job.
I doubt if even Lance Armstrong could win it as a solo entrant.

It means a shot at the green jersey, which is second in prestige only to the yellow.

The Tour isn't just one race, remember. Each individual stage is a race in itself, and he's won four of them.

He is already up there with the greatest of all time at the age of 23 and he is the best sprinter in the world at the moment and he only going to get better and stronger.

He got through the Giro and it would be great if he finished the tour but Alpe d'Huez is coming up in a few days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Lacets_AlpedHuez.jpg if he gets through the Alps it would be great to see him take the final stage in Paris.

Come on guys, he is world champion in the track madison, two stages of the Giro and now four stage of the Tdf. Let's us see what he does in the Olympics, surely he should be up there for Sports Personality of the year, but wait, hang on a minute, David Beckham is going to win..... oh please.

Isn't he putting his chances at the Olympics at risk by staying in the Tour de France?

Yeap, but the TdF is bigger and more important than the Olympics.

He is 17th off bottem of the TdF though, 140 out of 157 riders.

Actually he's fourth, with an outstanding chance of winning.

You're looking at the wrong results. He's aiming at the green jersey, not the yellow.

I don't think he has ever been aiming at the Green Jersey this year. He just wanted a stage win after missing out last year.
As for the Olympics I think staying in the tour until the end will help him

I also don't think his aim is the Green Jersey as he has not tried for any of the minor sprints along the way and has saved himself for the stage wins. Some of the other top sprinters have now cottoned on to this.I would love to see him win in Paris if he survives Alp D'Huez, but I think he may well be on his way to the Olympics this week.

I wouldn't be suprised if he doesn't make the start line today.

My point was that he is probably the best sprinter, he has proved himself in the TdF; and now should concentrate on the Olympics to get as many golds as he can. God knows this country will need as many medals as possible.

Shame really because next sundays stage into the Paris is the unofficial world championship for the sprinters and Cav would have had a great chance off bagging the Champs Elysees stage win.

Just got back from France 4 weeks ago and i rode most of the route there are doing on Tuesday & Wednesday, the Col de la Bonette, Col du Galibier, Col de la Croix de Fer & Alpe d Huez and boy thats 2 monster days they have coming up in the Alpes.
