If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly? Freddie Mercury? Or someone else?

This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only!

Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on

mm... choices choices...

Robert Palmer, Luther Vandross - got to see both of those...
Kurt Cobain...
Karen Carpenter...
Marvin Gaye...
Jimi Hendrix...
John Lennon...
Kirsty MacColl...

Think I'll have to go with Lennon just so he and McCartney could record some bobbins tune together.

My list are not all "Rock" stars i know.

Jim Morrison, every time. The opportunity to watch the Doors in concert would be a dream come true.

I'd have to bring back Marc Bolan, but only if I could keep him for my mum.

You say that, and they were a fantastic band no doubt.

I've seen 'Riders On the Storm' (Manzarek & Kreiger carrying on) and they are awesome musicians.

But back in the day, the Doors were said to be 50/50. Sometimes they were awesome, but at others abysmal! Unpredictable band, but that's what made them special.

People used to tell me I sang like Meatloaf on the Karaoke :D

Derrick Plourde without a doubt.

http://www.derrickplourde.com/ One of the most talented drummers of all time.

Talking of drummers, I would rather give Robert Wyatt his legs back than bring any of those previous suggestions back to life.

BUT if i had to pick one based upon the lack of unfulfilled potential - Cobain without a hesitation. 'Unplugged in New York' showed that the man had only scratched the surface of his talent. 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night..?' Can anyone think of a better vocal delivery in the last twenty years..?

In which case I'd like to bring Will Young back to life so he can kill Jim Morrison and avenge his own death.

Just had a look at the results so far, John Lennon in third, John Bonham from Led Zepp in second and Elvis has the most votes at the moment.

I would've thought John Lennon would win this no problem? Freddie Mercury is in forth place, Hendrix is in fifth and Kurt Cobain in sixth.

Not actually a 'rock' star but my vote would go to Otis Redding. His voice was one of the most incredible that the world ever bore witness to, and he was taken from us at far too young an age.

For me it as to be keith Moon :D for many reasons one being the famous exploding drum incident in the 60's .. as you know The Who were famous for smashing up the equipment and using small explosives for effect :)

On this occasion Keith Moon put trebble explosives in his drum ( this was live on American TV ) ... look at Townsends hair at the end .lol it dammaged his ear drums and he couldnt hear properly for months :D

A lot mentioned were past their prime before their death....i'd go for freddy mercury as his voice and songwriting were still very strong at the time of his death.

oh and although he had got in a bad way...the last elvis live show before he died was awesome and showed just how good he could still be.

Mick Hucknall, after I'd had the pleasure of killing him.

I'd keep bringing him back to life and then killing him in a variety of interesting ways over and over again for my own sick pleasure.

.

Karen Carpenter - so I could take her to the "Eat as Much as You Want for £10" chinese restaurant opposite the Roxy.

I would choose Jimi Hendrix. He had so much more music to play and was one of the few true musical geniuses in rock music.

There are just so many, and we all have our favourites .. but I'd go for John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Eva Cassidy, Sandy Denny, Rory Gallagher and Tim and Jeff Buckley.

Some were great and some could have been even greater.

I'm a big fan of Queen, so my first thought was Freddie Mercury. But I also miss Stevie Ray Vaughan. :(

Despite the almost-identical new thread, it's still Mick Hucknall for me. Over and over again.
