View Full Version : New to Sheffield-need advice on areas/schools
timmy205 21-04-2005, 04:02 Hi everyone,
We are going to move to Sheffield in the next few months. What do you think of the following areas for a family to live in:
Attercliffe
Darnall
Newhall
brightside
grimesthorpe
Longley
We would be grateful for some info about tpes of schools (primary/junior) in these areas.
Thanks in advance for the advice

Try the council website - www.sheffield.gov.uk
It lists all primary and secondary schools in Sheffield along with contact details and how to apply etc. There are also links to Ofsted Reports for schools.
Good Luck!
Cutglass 21-04-2005, 09:45 Would think your best bet is to use the "search" facility on here with each of the area names you've listed to take a peek at any of the threads that forum members have posted. That way you'll find threads with members' honest opinions (good or bad) about the different areas.
BTW, welcome to the Forum  hope you stay around to get to know us
which newhall? - there's more than one.

Thanks for the advice Cake. It would be good to hear from people who have had experiences in these schools.
fox20thc 21-04-2005, 17:58 try looking at this site Up my Street (http://www.upmystreet.com/) The real-life guide to your neighbourhood.

thanks fox20thc, this is useful but still I have not got the "taste" of these districts!
Aren't these among the toughest neighborhoods in the City?
Cutglass 22-04-2005, 07:02 That's why I suggested thru' all the member previous threads about the areas, it'll have personal opinions as opposed to just figures and statistics...
BTW, you're very welcome Timmy205

timmy205 27-04-2005, 14:37 Thanks,
Yes I am still looking. If anyone can help me on these areas I would be grateful as they are still unclear. Where is a nice place in longely?
Thanks, in advance everyone for your help!
Stannington is a very nice area, however it does have its downsides... The local senior school (Myers Grove) is full of chavs (http://www.chavscum.co.uk) and the buses to and from Stannington aren't as good as they could be but apart from that it's a good area, safe, not much crime.. Reasonably priced housing..
timmy205 28-04-2005, 01:07 Thanks Rich, that was useful
