View Full Version : Morons parking in dangerous place - what can I do?
People tend to park on the left of school road making turning right out of school road (Crookes) very, very difficult and dangerous. I often find it's the same car (big, stupid jeep).
What can i do to make sure this doesn't happen?
Can i write to the council or something?
Ta.
1Man&hisBMW 20-04-2005, 23:48 probably not much can be done unless there are parking restrictions there, but just to add it shouldnt be causing an obstruction or parked too close to a junction, although school road is notoriously bad.
MuteWitness 20-04-2005, 23:48 is it near a junction?
You could egg it! :hihi:
Heaven forbid that anybody in Sheffield should park inconsiderately
(Sorry, couldn't resist ;) )
redrobbo 21-04-2005, 00:10 Inform your local councillor and ask him/her to pass the information onto the new council 'traffic wardens'. If anyone is committing a traffic offence (eg parking on double yellow lines) they can get an automatic fine. I don't know this location (Crookes) to be able to comment further.
why not mention it to School Headmaster/Headmistress see what they think??

lol...made me chuckle
but there's a difference between inconsiderate parking and dangerous parking.
oh and just to add they park on a yellow line...but if no1 bothers to reprimand them they're just gonna continue.
well you may get expelled suppose!!

The yellow line will carry displayed restrictions to when there is NO WAITING and also NO LOADING. If the car is parked during the no parking restriction then they are breaking the law, this retriction also appiles to disabled badge holders.
Near a junction where there is a single yellow line tends to change to double fo the junction. the double yellow line mans no parking or waiting at any time and again this also appiles to disabled badge holders. And yes I have a copper give a ticket for disabled badge holder parkinng on a double.

Which is similar to what I was moaning about here:
http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29302&highlight=black+yellow
Hope you get it sorted. I know the old council meter wardens are now meant to be doing double yellow lines, but I doubt they make it out of the city centre... could be wrong though.
I think there is a rule about how near a junction one can park.
When I learnt to drive I was told no more than 15 yards.
Inform the police or traffic wardens? It may feel like you are maiking a mountain out of a molehill but this person's selfishness is putting your life at risk and possibly others as well.
I live in a cul-de-sac and the exit is often obscured in a similar manner because of colleges and football crowds and people using the road as a park and drive place. I had a go at one driver getting off the tram to collect her car which was parked with it's front bumper effectively just over the start of the junction. She didn't like it but I did say we would be getting the police in if it didn't stop happening. Funny how word gets round but we seem to get that little bit of space these days.
Phone the council - they will come and paint double yellows 10 yards (or whatever it is) from the corner if someone complains that it is dangerous.
Either that or a polite note saying "please stop parking here, you are creating a nuciance. If I see your car here again, you better have a footpump because I will let your tyres down"
See if they risk it! :heyhey:

The only problem with that is it could be seen as criminal damage so risky.
Terraviva 21-04-2005, 22:12 You're right, it's a nightmare trying to turn out of school rd. I know the jeep you mean... Inconsiderate b*stards.

If its there everyday I am sure some traffic wardens would be glad of a guaranteed result every single day...

I was thinking the threat would be enough - obvioulsy you wouldnt sign the note!
craigmason 22-04-2005, 10:45 there used to be a car parked on the pavement near me (scarsdale road) all the time making people walk into the road to get round it so i complained to the police who went round to the owner's and made them park it on there drive
I use School Road frequently - top 15 yards or so are parking restrictions so I'm sure if someone parks there regularly they'll soon get a ticket or two if parking police informed.
There is a (legal) parking space on the main road outside the butchers at corner of School Road / Crookes - is that where you mean - ie jeep blocking your view of traffic coming up Crookes from Grindstone direction?
Report it to the police if it is illegaly parked.
If it is not on school property it is nothing to do with the school and they will be unable to do anything about it, however much they may want to.
Or, get other parents together who also find it inconsiderate and politely explain this to the driver concerned. When faced with a few people who find the parking unacceptable they may re-think their attitude?
Just to point out to everybody that their isn't a school on School Road, Crookes.
Read this part of the Highway code;
http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/22.htm
Get your crook lock and smash his or hers mirror off.

I know exactly which one you mean it's been there all week. People do park far too close to that corner and sometimes diagonally across it, causing absolute chaos, as noone can get in or out if someone else is on the road. Any accident caused here should be charged to the f**k wits insurance for causing it.
It is not the junction at the top onto Crookes, it is further down.
It would help if people would only park on one side of School road near the top as you can then get 2 cars up and down at same time, instead of all the hold ups by some idiot deciding they need to be outside there house and parking on the path. The new flats in the old church dont help either i would have thought that to get the planning permission planners would have to have provided enough parking.

I didn't mean the threat I meant actullay doing it
As somebody who uses School Road daily I wish somebody would tell me where to look out for this big jeep "on the left".
If it isn't at the School Road / Crookes junction - where is it - by the shops near where Western Road and Cobden View Road join School Road?
Personally I have more trouble with people coming down School Road who insist on giving about 6 foot clearance to parked cars (parked on rsh going uphill) on their left and not giving way to vehicles trying to get up the hill.
Nope, I don't drive a jeep.
It is on Sackville Rd, though has moved atm To just around the corner on Fitzgerald Rd.
andywatton 25-04-2005, 16:43 Let the local police know - if it's causing an obstruction then I'm sure a Fixed Penalty ticket will convince it to park elsewhere in future!
