View Full Version : PC internal cable sleeving scotty07 18-07-2008, 16:03 hi iam trying to sleeve my wires up in my pc but the stuff wont go over the molex connectors just rips and makes a mess. is there anyway i can do this. seanpint 18-07-2008, 17:22 From the older stuff i had they was different size sets fr different cables. I remember having to take out the cables from the actual molex to make it look good. Its hard work and takes ages but it can look good so keep trying it if the sleeving dont cost much. illuminati 18-07-2008, 18:26 You can get spiral cable wrapping from places such as Rapid Electronics or RS Components (maybe Maplins do it) which wraps around bundles of cable, you just cut it to length. slh73 18-07-2008, 22:53 Spiral wrappings crap, its too stiff. You need to take the pins out of the molex connectors. There are tools available for it illuminati 18-07-2008, 23:55 Spiral wrap is very effective, there are different sizes and stiffnesses to suit, DO NOT mess around taking out pins from connectors, just don't, the tool will probably cost you more than the wrap and you might end up pushing the pins in the wrong place! AND WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS ANYWAY, WHO SEES THE INSIDE OF YOUR PC! slh73 19-07-2008, 09:42 Spiral wrap is very effective, there are different sizes and stiffnesses to suit, DO NOT mess around taking out pins from connectors, just don't, the tool will probably cost you more than the wrap and you might end up pushing the pins in the wrong place! AND WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS ANYWAY, WHO SEES THE INSIDE OF YOUR PC! I use spiral wrap on a daily basis, its fine for running door looms on industrial control panels, but not flexible enough for the insides of a PC case where space is at a premium. A molex pin remover will cost no more than a fiver, and will allow you to use expandable sleeving instead, and heatshrink the ends to make a far neater job of it. Or, if youre careful, its possible to take the pins out using a very small screwdriver. Just take your time, and make sure you label everything up and put them all back the same as they came out. Ghozer 19-07-2008, 10:02 Spiral Wrap, medium, is perfect for PC wiring, flexible enough for what its needed for, but tough enough to keep things together and in place. its what I use.. as for "Why are you doing this any way, who sees the inside of your PC?" Its not just for looks, If cabling is tidy and 'rounded' it gives better airflow than lots of messy cables inside the case, that could be the reason. And removing the pins of a molex connector is risky, even if you have no problems removing them, or putting them back in the right order etc, it increses the risk of some falling out, which could end up causing shorts and blown components, I have seen this happen many times. scotty07 19-07-2008, 10:06 Spiral wrap is very effective, there are different sizes and stiffnesses to suit, DO NOT mess around taking out pins from connectors, just don't, the tool will probably cost you more than the wrap and you might end up pushing the pins in the wrong place!
