Hi,
Just wondered if anybody can help me?
I applied for a job in last Weeks Sheffield Star as an data input clerk in Sheffield. I received an E-mail today saying to contact the company (PeterGreen computers). I thought this job would be office based within Sheffield, but when I phoned them up they said it is a working from home post and I just needed to read the job description and agree to terms. Then this job would start immediately. They said my CV had been assessed and they were happy with it.
I am am not sure about this job as they didn't want to interview me and didn't need references. They need me to agree to terms as soon as possible so I would like your opinions on whether this is a legit job. Details as below.

I haven't sent any money thank god. This was the first reply I have had in weeks to a job application and got a little excited. I thought this was a genuine job since it was advertised in the Sheffield Star.

I make a full time living on the internet and this job position you talk about is not as straight forward as it sounds. You basically have to input data into ads that you find on google ad sense. The ads you input are to direct people to your own website that if they sign up you take a 75% of the £25 they have to pay. So when you pay the £25 to sign up, the person who placed the ad will receive £18.75. The idea is the more ads you place the higher your strike rate.
I've been on-line as a business for just under a year and I tried this when I first started out, here's my earnings with this type of business model:

Google Adsense Account: £283.75 (so this is what I had to pay them for displaying my ads!)

Data input company (paying through Paypal): £121.67

Profit/Loss= -£162.08

Yep you got it I lost £162.08

Not worth it. If you want to make money on-line it involves as much work, sweat and tears as a normal business would take.
Never believe any of the hype you read as its all a load of Boll*cks!

I wish you all the luck. Try to find something that you are passionate about (for example I love horses so make a living from betting on the horses, not for everyone I know but it works for me!!) and turn into a business.

Good luck

Daz, I think this all sounds a bit dodgy. I have people working for my company who work from home, and they're on Associates Contracts. No way would I set someone on without meeting them and finding out how good they are at what they do!!
The money sounds too good to be true, so it probably is. Just make sure you don't send them any money upfront for 'administration costs' etc.
On the other hand, if it turns out to be genuine, LET ME KNOW............. I might apply myself!

You pay the money then receive an e-mail with a list of suggested ad wordings then you place loads of free ads more or less stating the same thing as you responded to for other people to reply to you, who then pay you for the e-mail you received!!!!

Apparently before the internet was common, there was an envelope scheme which was just about the same but done through the post instead.

Wow, I can't believe what some people will do in order to take money from others. It was good of Maintenance to inform us about the similar story and loss, its not easy to do that.

Well on the upside although things are looking bad on the High Street, internet sales are still rising and are seen as more environmentally friendly.

One job that hasnt been done for many industrial companies is placing all stocks and parts on databases. Gruelling job but it will have to be done sometime. It would be a great way to learn access or similar database programs.

Many Thanks for everybody's help and input. I did not pursue the job and have saved my £25. I will carry on job hunting and hopefully find a suitable post soon.
