I was just looking at the Learn Direct web site and was shocked to find they charge for their courses, even the online ones! Charging £9.99 (non-subsidised price £59.99 :o ) for an online training course in Word Processing is amazing!

Does this come as a shock to anyone else? From their advertising I was under the impression the majority of their services (like the online courses) would be free.

Luckily for me, my word porcessing skills is good

:P

I started an on-line advanced Windows 2000 course with Learndirect and found it a complete load of rubbish. I paid £50.

I would strongly advise people not to do these courses. They rely on a fast web connection and are really picky.

For example, one of the questions might be "Get your computer's systems properties" and you are presented with a fake windows desktop on your screen to do this.

This operation is normally done by right-clicking my computer, but in this case you must click start..settings..control panel..system properties.

If you do it wrong (or the 'improper' way) or slightly miss a button, you fail.

Edit: Added following:

Check out your local college, they may run evening classes at some schools - much better value for money with 'proper' teaching.

I don't see why anybody should want to take a course in word processing anyway. It's pretty easy to figure it all out by yourself.

Having said this, I know what my mum's like when she's trying to use Word. She's hopeless, it's so annoying.

Their own courses aren't free which is pretty bad.

However through their site a few hours ago I found a free basic online html course and my masterpiece for assessment is at this site (http://www.geocities.com/purplestar1uk/chocolate.html)

Now you're impressed aren't you?!

I wanted to add funky mouse tracks and stuff but I thought I might lose marks for taking the p*ss even though I wouldn't be, it's just I've learned how to do them and I like them!

This could be an answer to my insomnia. Find and complete a free online course every night!!

Bringing this back to life via search!

I was looking at Learn direct today at french and computer courses. I want to start with my french again and start to build up my computer skills.

Looking at college prices and timetables (inc' night classes) I can't seem to find anything to suit my working hours ( new job might be good for that;) :D ). Do you think it would be a good idea to do an online course? Has anyone done one in languages or computing with LD?
