Anyone reccommend any good car scrapyards in and around Sheffield? In particular scrapyards which frequently have Maestros/Montego's in.

You could try Coopers in Hillsborough.
It's at the end of Livesey Street.

Yes, as above Wilf Jays is very good usually. They have lots of newish cars but I am not sure about Montegos/Maestros. You might be better trying Barrow road.

There used to be dozens, I recall half a dozen in the Treeton area once, and I used to be a regular at Wathen Bros. down Soap House Lane, Woodhouse.

Out of interest what parts is it that you require?

Dont require any part in particular as yet! Touch Wood.

But I am a maestro enthusiast and have just got into restoring a maestro for showing.

As you are all aware Maestros are fast becoming rare, and turning in to a classic car. Yes I know what some of people's opinions are on them but I like them.

Parts I would be interested in, are trim ( chrome grill, chrome wing mirrors) Decent body panels, where the dreaded rust hasn't got into them. Basically you just never know until you arrive and take a peek at the car, to see what you may want from it. So if anyone know's of a good grandad car, that has ended up in the scrapyard let me know and I will be along to see what I can salvage :)

After a holiday home to my family down the country, and most of the week spent in a scrapyard getting lots of rare parts from maestro's for myself and others. I t suddenly occured to me for someone who has lived in the Sheffield area for over 5 years, I haven't the foggiest where the best scrap yards are for my hobby in the area.

I find the best scrapyards are the ones, where you can take bits of yourself, but these are very few and far between nowadays. :(

Thanks for all your comments, I will have to go and check some of these out.

Whilst we are on the topic of scrapyards does anyone know a scrapyard in the area which takes the ICE (in-car-entertainemt)system out of the car and sells it?

As I am looking for a rover radio and cd changer out of newish rover 800. Missed one on ebay the otherday, but am at a loss where to look now.

There's a good one in Beighton next to the railway line. Can't remember the name though.

Or you could try the scrap yard next to the 'Jet' petrol station at Darnall (opposite Morrisons).

Not been to a scrapyard for many years but when I did I found that I needed to bring my own tools for most of them to remove the parts myself.

While on the subject of old scrap car parts, I have a 1977 MK I Fiesta in need of a few new bits and peices. Anyone seen one around in any scrap yards? Not MK 2 parts, they are different....

I know its the wrong type, but for anyone else, I've walked away twice from the Japanese one near Meadowhall retail park after they have blatantly tried to rip me off.

£15 they wanted for a dented Nissan badge. The way they blatantly looked me up and down and clearly decided I must be some sort of toff they dont want to do business with or snigger at as they rob blind.

Edit /w thread stealing intent: BTW if anyone knows a breakers with a Nissan 300zx or 200sx in currently I'd be interested (otherwise its back to the internet ones).

Personally I wouldn't use Wilf Jay's because I've found them to be rude and abrupt on numerous occasions that I have been, also for the same reasons a friend of mine thats in the motor trade wont touch them either.

Skatiechik

I can't say they have been rude or abrupt to me. They are damn expensive for items which have no metallic value at all though.

Still haven't found anywhere decent in Sheffield after all this time either.
