Around Sheffield there are many very nice pubs that do very good value for money lunches IE Carvery for £5/£6.

When My Wife and I go Shopping in City Center or even Meadowhall, we have not found anywhere that even comes close to Pub Lunches.

Can anyone suggest anywhere?

Thank You

You should get the number 51 bus up to Crosspool and go to Crosspool Tavern. Their carvery is half price (£3.25 ish) in the day (up to 5pm) and it's gorgeous! A very very popular carvery pub!

I'm ashamed to say I haven't been back for ages, but I once had Sunday lunch in Olive on Division Street and was genuinely impressed. It's not a carvery, just a good quality roast.

The Stag in Netheredge does a great sunday lunch at £7.50. The Riverside does a good carvery, much better than the crosspool tavern in my opinion and it's close to town. The Mile Stone roast is not bad but it's not worth the £10.95 and their drink prices are getting stupid. Bungallows and Bears did a good roast when it opened but the food has gone down hill. Might be worth asking if the Old House do a roast. The Ivory did a nice roast but they may have stopped as it was not very busy.

I guess it depends what you want, I much prefer a normal sized plate of good fresh food over a an unlimited mountain of previously frozen roast spuds, soggy veg and dry meat which seems to be whay you get at carvery's.

The sanctuary (next to the cathedral) does gorgeous food.
They are doing a summer lunch offer for £5.95 including drink (a choice of fruit cocktails!)
Their full main menu is much more impressive but more like £8+ per person
http://www.sanctuary-bar.co.uk/

I can also recommend Gusto Italiano (on Church St opposite Orchard Sq)
Run by a nice italian couple and really good proper italian food in quite a 'fast food/cafe' type atmosphere (eg counter service, you queue up and get a portion of whichever dish you choose, already hot & ready to eat)

We have enjoyed lunch and pre theatre menus at the cafe/restaurant on Surrey Street which used to be Tuckwoods below Montgomery Theatre. I think it's ?Cafe Nova? but not sure. We found it good value and it's central but not been for a few months.

I cash in my Tesco vouchers for 4x value in restaurant vouchers. These can be spent at Cafe Rouge and Ha Ha's though we found the latter slow service and very noisy.

My Mother (God Bless her) used to take us to Tuckwoods, very nice memories.

What type of menu do the Cafe Nova serve, is it a full dinner or just oven chips and microwave food

Hi Gerald, can confirm it's called Cafe Nova on Surrey St. The menu is Italian I suppose. Pasta, pizza, salads, Just looked it up online Lunch 2 courses £5.95 (extra £1 for a glass of wine), Pre theatre 2 courses £9.30 from 4.30 to 7.30 pm Mon to Sat, think there's another branch at Meadowhall but not tried that.

Online info says it is part of Mazzarellas though I don't knowwhether it was run by them last time I went for lunch. Let me know how you get on if you decideto go, this is a subject close to my heart!!

Imagine - we are out and about in City Center and want a good old fashion meat and 2 veg, no time to catch buses to go out of town then back again

This seems to be what we are looking for,
Roebuck Tavern, 72 Charles Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S1 2NB
Providing the menu is good, - can anyone provide any feedback

Have a change and go to Leeds and try Whitelocks. It's bang in the city centre and is a relic of a Victorian pub serving traditional Sunday roasts of decent quality at cheap prices.

Except you need to be there at opening time just to get a seat! It's not the biggest pub you've ever been in.......

Yes it does, home cooked at around £6 or £7 for extra large, and it is large. I should know my other half cooks it.

They also have an extensive home cooked range of food on offer.
Only does carvery on Sunday though, although I think this is the norm.:)

I think the Taybarn is the old Brewers Fayre / Charlie Chalks place on the Tankersley Roundabout isn't it?
