I really need to get rid of this, it keeps randomly playing music at me (im using firefox now)
I no its IE because pop ups keep coming up for a split second causing any of my current windows to close- quite annoying yes

Ive had a go at 'removing programs' but the pop ups keep on coming, and they are headed with 'Internet explorer' (im guessing this means the program hasnt been removed)

ARGH

nightmare

:help:

You've most likely got some kind of virus on the machine that's using IE. Do a full virus scan using an up to date anti virus program and see what it turns up.

You've done thorough virus and malware scans haven't you? Only as far as I'm aware microsoft didn't program internet explorer to randomly pop up and play music at you.

Firewalls do jack against malware, McAfee will try keep you clean of viruses but you can still pick up allsorts of spyware with that still which is what you've probably got.

Try installing and running AVG Free Edition http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition and AdAware http://lavasoft.com/single/trialpay.php
Don't go for the paid-for versions just yet. Get them installed and let them do their updates and see what they find. A scan may take a VERY long time, but let them do their thing.

how do i get rid?

I'm nowhere near as technical as most people on here, but when i was having problems deleting files, folders and programs etc I found a utilty called "Unlocker" that enabled me to get rid of all the superfluous programs XP puts in your "program files" folder. It might work....

downloads.com - get yourself a registry cleaner. virus scanners may remove viruses but it sounds like one's made an 'edit' in registry to fire up adds. also they'll pick up any spy ware on there.
