Lickszz 07-03-2003, 01:56 AM I always wondered, Why did Crystal Peaks never expand. When it first opened it was like a new intiative and very popular, there was nothing like it around until Meadowhall came along a few years later. I always thought that it was their intention to expand and make it bigger but it never came off, has anybody got any idea why? I remember when it first opened and Eddie the Eagle Edwards was the "big name" celeb they got to do the honors.
crystal peaks 2 was opened about 2 years ago, it extended the place by about 50%

Where abouts is this then? I can't say I seen any difference last time I went which was around 2 years ago...
*Twinkle* 07-03-2003, 01:38 PM i can remember when it expanded, i think they added all the shops from clintons onwards, right towards wilkinsons, if I remember correctly. It definately needs to have more shops, I find it really boring in there!
Caprice you are right the extension did start from the card shop. Also the market area was moved slightly. If my memory serves me right Liz Dawn from Coronation Street opened the extension.
alchresearch 07-03-2003, 03:23 PM Perhaps when the cinema closes that area can be opened out for more shops?
The Star did report that the cinema section will indeed be used for more shops.
Don't forget the retail park just over the road opened a couple of years ago too, introducing me to the delights of KFC :)
hopefully it'll make the downstairs a little busier, it seems to be all but forgotten except the McD's

Excellent. Living in Manchester, I rely on you guys and this forum for news!
Strix 18-12-2004, 12:39 AM Oooh, look! A really old thread about Crystal peaks! Looks like the wheels are well and truly in motion now! Have they finished the new Sainsbury's yet?
vidster 18-12-2004, 12:49 AM I read that the old cinema is going to be the new Sainsburys and Sainsburys is going to be new shops. They are now finishing/finished the development to link Crystal Peaks to Drakehouse retail park.
I personally like going to Drakehouse more than going to Meadowhall. There is a lot more space and it has everything you want except a thousand mobile phone shops and a thousand music/games shops!.
sparklesista 18-12-2004, 12:51 AM The Sainsbury's has been there for a while now I think?
It was there when I moved to Hackenthorpe 3 months ago

WallBuilder 18-12-2004, 01:04 AM When they designed Drakehouse retail park they certainly didn't give much thought to the pedestrians, it's very car orientated.
I like Crystal Peaks it's not as claustophobic as Meadowhell or as airless and the market is nice and bright almost cheery.

Ooops sorry hunny, I read your post a bit quick and skipped that bit!
Zebra 18-12-2004, 02:43 AM Crystal Peaks has been open about 15/16 years ish now, I remember when it was 99p at the cinema.
Drakehouse was originally just an extension car park when Pistol Creaks became busier than anticipated due to the extended building in the Sothall, Beighton and Owlthorpe areas.
The new extension added maybe another 15 - 20 units of shops.
That's about all I know.
threecolours 19-12-2004, 03:38 PM This tells you what's going on there...

Some new shops should be there eventually although with all the building works going on the amount of car parking is currently a bit limited and it gets chocca. Drakehouse retail park is next door (boots, tk max, diy shops..you get the idea).
I live quite near to crystal peaks so its handy if I don't want to go into Sheff centre. Otherwise, at the moment, its not really worth travelling to as its mainly the standard shops you can find anywhere.
Strix 19-12-2004, 09:29 PM Thanks Three'. That was useful.
You'd think they'd keep it a bit more up to date though. It doesn't even have christmas info on it!
NatalieSheff 20-12-2004, 01:16 PM i used to live at that end of town - eddy the eagle hehe! used to "hang" at peaks as a kid. now i find it quite scruffy. the retail park very handy though
Strix 26-01-2005, 04:01 AM The building work is coming along nicely. The place is going to be huge
Kristian 26-01-2005, 04:11 AM I hate Crystal Peaks. I don't know of anyone that goes there apart from people that live or work near there. My friends and I all refer to it as 'Scrubbers' Meadowhall'!

Strix 26-01-2005, 04:24 AM It's good if you know what you want, and you don't intend stopping. At Meadowhall it takes 20 mins to get from your car to the shop you want and 20 mins back - that's 40 mins with no shopping done. Rubbish for 'need' shopping
Lurch 26-01-2005, 04:41 AM I used to spend most of my youth hanging around Crystal Peaks. I haven't been for a while but it hadn't changed much then, mind you, I haven't lived in Sheffield for 12 years so it's a bit far!
I have driven past\through a couple of times and noticed it was growing, I might call in one day, but only if there's going to be a real star there!

You mean you wouldn't hang around there now? :D What's wrong with you? Surely you do't go to a pub or anything?
